Many parents spend a lot of time carefully planning how the birth of their children will go. And while there are always a lot of things out of your control when it comes time to start pushing, there are a few things you do get a say in, like where you plan to deliver.
But when one stray cat was getting ready to pick her birthing location, she appeared to have chosen the strangest place ever: an abandoned public bathroom. According to The Dodo, a sweet mama cat had her litter of kittens behind a broken-down toilet, on top of a bed of insulation that appeared to have been pulled down from the crumbling walls.
Fortunately, there was a guardian angel watching this whole story unfold, and a good Samaritan had been keeping an eye on the mom. Audray, the woman behind the Luck’s Rescue YouTube channel, then made it her mission to rescue the family.
Of course, it wasn’t that easy, and the North Georgia-based animal advocate had to work really hard to get the kittens without losing the mom in the process. Fortunately, her hard work paid off, and now the family is spending some quality time together in a place that’s a whole lot nicer than where they started.
The Rescuer Had Been Feeding the Mama Cat
Audray told The Dodo how the mama cat had been visiting her for a little while before suddenly vanishing for a week. Knowing that the mom likely had kittens nearby, she set out on a mission to find the babies. According to Audray, it only took a day of investigating to locate the kittens.
After finding the mama cat sitting outside of an abandoned building, Audray went inside to look around, which is when she found a litter of newborn kittens.
Rescuing the Kittens Was the Hard Part
The rescuer joked that finding the kittens had been the easy part, but that figuring out how to rescue the kittens without scaring off the mama cat proved to be more challenging. That’s because Audray feared that the family would become separated if the mom got spooked.
“Plan A was to put the kittens on top of the cat trap to get her to go inside of it,” Audray explained. When that didn’t work, she put the kittens behind the trap, which was also a bust.
They Ended Up Using Audray’s Phone to Lure the Mom In

In the end, it wasn’t even the sound of the mama cat’s own kittens that got her to go into the trap. Instead, Audray said it was the sound of kittens crying, which had been playing on a loop on her phone, which was stashed inside the cage. Within 30 minutes, the mom had been caught.
People celebrated Audray’s efforts in the comments of the Instagram post about the rescue. “Mama ferals and strays have such tough jobs, finding their own food and taking care of kittens,” one person wrote. “Great rescue.”
The end of Audray’s video showed the mama reunited with her kittens in a clean and comfortable crate, which looked like the happiest possible ending to this family’s story.
