Homeowners Claim Their Brand New Houses Are Falling Apart, and They’re Sharing the Damage Online
When someone buys a new construction home, they often think that they have struck gold when it comes to peace of mind. Theoretically, everything in the home is new, so it should last a long time before it needs to be serviced or repaired.
That goes for everything from the dishwasher to the roof, since all of those things should only be as old as the house is. But for one homeowner, the peace of mind they thought they were gaining by purchasing a home that was only two years old quickly faded when they began to notice some potential structural problems around the house.
TikToker @texpatBBQ documented what he was seeing, filming various cracks and issues he says began appearing around his house. But when he reached out to Lennar, the company behind the construction of his home, he claims he was told that the issues were purely cosmetic.
Now other Lennar homeowners are taking to social media to share what they are seeing around their own homes, including what they describe as structural problems and even mold.
Homeowner Documents Worsening Cracks
The TikToker has shared several videos about his home. In one September video, the TikToker showed his followers several cracks along his home’s foundation, which he was able to follow all the way up to the home’s roof, getting wider as it went.
Inside the house, he was able to trace the same cracks for his followers, showing them how the cracks also run through the center of the house, creating a massive fissure in his flooring, all the way to the other side of the home’s exterior.
Another Homeowner Reports Worsening Damage
@honeybeeabsHere’s an update on my Lennar home splitting in half!! YES, things are WORSE! And yall probably guessed it… NO, I haven’t heard back from anyone since we had the engineer who designed the foundation come out for an inspection. Would yall be worried?! I’m freaking out♬ original sound – brette + tito
Another TikToker by the name of @honeybeeabs posted about her Lennar home, claiming the house was splitting in half. She shared images she said were taken a week before she went out of town, showing cracks in her home’s flooring. When she arrived back from her trip, she documented additional damage, which she said was significantly wider and even showed a shift in her floor where one side of the tile appeared higher than the other, creating an uneven surface.
The woman also filmed cracks in her walls and ceiling, each of which had expanded over the week she was away.
Mold Complaints Add to Homeowners’ Concerns

Another homeowner says they started having breathing and gastrointestinal issues after moving into their Lennar home, describing how they began to notice mold growing around the house. TikToker @ashthorloki says that things escalated quickly, and claims the small patches of mold they discovered quickly grew into larger colonies.
“The mold was in every cabinet across the entire house,” they wrote in a post. Eventually, the TikToker says they hired an independent expert, who then received a report saying that the house was uninhabitable because of the mold levels.
The complaints about the homes extend beyond social media. The company has been named on the Better Business Bureau website, which says it has received 837 complaints in the last three years, with 263 of those complaints coming in over the past 12 months.
Of course, just because people are complaining about the company doesn’t mean that it is guilty of any wrongdoing. According to MySA, Lennar says it’s addressing concerns with homeowners on an individual basis.
