Frontier Airlines Now Lets Travelers Cancel Flights for Any Reason

If booking flights ahead of time makes you nervous, Frontier Airlines hopes to ease that anxiety by offering a new option that lets travelers cancel their flight for any reason and get a full refund.

Frontier launched Cancel for Any Reason on Sept. 16. It is a paid option that travelers can see while booking a flight on Frontier’s website or mobile app.

HTS, the Hopper company powering the new feature, says travelers don’t need to provide a reason or documentation to cancel.

However, you have to purchase Cancel for Any Reason when you first book the flight, so you can’t add it later when you realize your plans might change.

How Much Money Do You Get Back?

Frontier says travelers can choose their preferred refundability level when booking, with options up to a full refund. HTS says the exact percentage you will get back is shown before you buy the service.

The refund covers the eligible base fare and applicable taxes. It doesn’t include additional services, and you also won’t get back the money you paid to add Cancel for Any Reason itself.

You Can’t Wait Until the Last Minute

Travelers can use the service up until 24 hours before their first scheduled departure. If you decide to cancel, HTS says you can do it through the confirmation email you received after buying the service.

It also applies to the whole reservation. If several people are booked together, you must buy Cancel for Any Reason for everyone, and using it cancels all covered flights on that booking, including the outbound and return flights.

This Is Different From a Regular Frontier Cancellation

Frontier already allows travelers to cancel flights, but what happens to the money depends on the ticket. For bookings made on or after June 5, a regular cancellation can come with a $129 fee per passenger, per direction, unless the traveler has a qualifying fare, bundle or Elite benefit. The remaining value is generally issued as a Frontier travel credit.

Cancel for Any Reason works differently because the eligible refund goes back to the original form of payment. Just remember that it isn’t automatically included with every Frontier ticket. You have to pay for it when you book.
