Norwegian Cruise Line’s largest ship will soon let passengers experience tropical rain, lightning and rolling thunder without the fear of an actual storm at sea.
The Sensory Rain Pool aboard Norwegian Aura will begin with calm water before progressing into tropical rainfall and a dramatic thunderstorm. Norwegian describes the 360-degree attraction as the first experience of its kind on a cruise ship.
The pool will sit inside the ship’s two-deck Mandara Spa. Its Thermal Suite will contain 15 wellness amenities, including 11 experiences that have not previously appeared in a Norwegian Cruise Line spa.
Norwegian Aura will measure nearly 1,130 feet and weigh approximately 170,000 gross tons. The ship will accommodate over 3,800 passengers at double occupancy, making it 10% larger than Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna.

Passengers will be able to move between warm and cold environments throughout the Thermal Suite. Other new features include a Snow Cave, Foot Spa, Waterfall Experience, Reflection Pool and guided hot and cold plunges.
The spa will also have salt and meditation rooms, two types of saunas, an aromatic steam room and a Zen Lounge. Norwegian’s official announcement lists 24 treatment rooms, a salon, Skin Lab and a fitness center.
Norwegian Aura will introduce two new restaurants
Tamara will become Norwegian’s first specialty restaurant dedicated to Indian cuisine. Its menu will include short-rib dosa, lamb biryani and green papaya salad.
The complimentary Panorama Room will use large LED displays, synchronized lighting, multiple audio channels and changing visuals to transform the dining environment. The ship will offer 22 food and beverage options covering more than 10 cuisines.
Passengers will also find six slides, an 82-foot ropes course, carnival-style games and nine-hole miniature golf inside the Ocean Heights activity complex.
The first sailing departs in May 2027
Norwegian Aura will begin service May 21, 2027, with a seven-day Mediterranean cruise from Trieste, Italy, to Barcelona, Spain. Stops include Valletta, Malta, and Salerno and Civitavecchia in Italy.
A 13-day transatlantic crossing will take the ship to Miami. Norwegian Aura will then operate seven-day Eastern Caribbean itineraries during summer 2027 before moving to the Western Caribbean for winter 2027 and 2028. Reservations are currently available through the ship’s official page.
