A package showed up at a southern Indiana home, and with it, an Amazon contractor. But instead of pulling in the driveway to deliver a package, they decided to ruin the freshly-cut lawn with some heinous tire tracks. A doorbell camera caught the whole thing. She then dropped the package at the door. Then she did a U-turn and drove back out over the lawn, cutting a second set of ruts on the way.
The home belongs to Brian and Elisha Magill, a couple who post homesteading videos online. They didn’t catch it live but saw it all later on camera footage. At first, they were stunned and a little annoyed. Elisha Magill said that once the shock wore off, they actually started laughing. The whole thing was, in her words, “so unexpected and bizarre.”
The clip took off after the incident that took place in Corydon, Indiana. It bounced around TikTok, Facebook, Reddit, and X, and pulled in millions of views. A lot of viewers were sure it had to be staged, since no normal delivery skips a clear driveway to plow through a yard. According to WHAS11, local reporting tracked down where it happened, and Amazon confirmed the video was real.
People joked that the driver’s GPS must have mistaken the front yard for a road, or that Amazon had decided the grass looked faster than the pavement. A few tried to come up with a real explanation. Most just circled back to the same question everyone else had: Why not just use the driveway?
How Amazon Responded
Amazon called the driver’s actions “clearly unacceptable” and said it holds its delivery partners to high standards. It told USA TODAY it had reached out to the Magills to make things right. As of that statement, the contractor was no longer delivering Amazon packages, so they won’t be driving through any more yards.
The driver was never named, however, and Amazon didn’t try to explain what she’d been thinking. The Magills, for their part, seem to have made their peace with the situation. They got an answer, they got Amazon’s attention, and they got a viral video. The grass, presumably, will grow back — there’s just the question of “why” that remains.
Why She Was Driving Her Own Car
This Amazon driver wasn’t in a marked van. She was in a regular personal car. That’s because she was delivering through Amazon Flex, a gig program that lets people sign up to drop off packages using their own vehicles on their own schedule. They get paid by the block of delivery time, not an hourly wage.
Amazon stressed that Flex drivers are independent contractors, not its employees. The distinction lets it hold her to its standards and drop her from deliveries. It also puts a little space between Amazon and the person behind the wheel. For the Magills, that probably doesn’t change much. Someone drove a car across their lawn. And millions of people have now watched it happen.
