A Texas renter asked Reddit what to do about a downstairs neighbor who allegedly turned a garage dispute into a nightly performance. The post, shared in the r/Apartmentliving community, came from a Fort Worth user who said the neighbor has been sitting outside his garage, blasting music, cursing, and trying to get a reaction. That’s already a lot for apartment living, and then the texts started.
According to the Reddit user, the fight began because he kept reporting the neighbor to the office for blocking his garage. The neighbor allegedly responded by sitting outside the garage with loud music until 10 p.m., when the user said it became a police matter. After that, the user said the man walked back and forth from his apartment to the garage while shouting at him.
The user said he hasn’t been engaging with the neighbor and has been recording the incidents from inside instead. Somehow, he said, the neighbor also got his personal cell phone number and sent multiple texts until about 11 p.m. One of those messages allegedly included a threat to sue him for recording.
The Reddit user said he and his wife had only recently moved into the apartment community, so they didn’t want to leave. He added that he has epilepsy and needs sleep, which made the repeated late-night noise and texting harder to deal with. But he added that he was at his breaking point mentally and wanted suggestions.
Why Reddit Told Him to Stop Treating It Like a Noise Complaint
Commenters thought that the issue sounded like more than just an ordinary neighbor. The music was one issue, but the shouting, personal texts, and attempts to provoke him made the situation feel more targeted. Some suggested he should keep documenting everything and escalate the complaints in writing.
Others noted that he might want to look into a restraining order or order of protection if the behavior continued. Some Redditors said he should involve the police if the neighbor kept coming near his garage and shouting after quiet-hours rules kicked in. It was clear that Reddit thought the management office route probably wasn’t enough anymore.
But the part that seemed to bother people most was the cell phone number. The original poster said he didn’t know how the neighbor got it. A loud neighbor is one problem, but a loud neighbor who can also reach you directly is a lot more concerning.
Naturally, Reddit also had some petty suggestions, like pressure washing the driveway or matching the man’s music with bigger speakers. The original poster didn’t seem interested in doing that. He just wanted to play by the rules. But in the end, it might not end up being the best solution for him or this situation.
