A reported fight inside a north Phoenix home ended with smoke and flames Thursday night after police say a father called 911 about his adult son.
Officers were called around 6:30 p.m. to a home near 12th Street and Cave Creek Road, according to Arizona’s Family.
Police said the father reported that his adult son had assaulted him and tried to set the house on fire.
The father was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Police had not released the suspect’s name or possible charges in the latest report.
Smoke Appeared As Officers Worked The Scene
As officers tried to get the suspect out of the home, smoke was seen coming from the residence. Arizona’s Family chopper video showed smoke and flames inside the house before firefighters put the fire out quickly.
The suspect was taken into custody around 9 p.m. and was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A First Responder Was Checked Out At The Scene
Arizona’s Family reported that a first responder was seen on a stretcher, sitting upright and talking. The report did not give additional details about that person’s condition.
Police said there were no other suspects, and detectives were expected to continue the investigation.
Fire Plans Need Clear Exits
A fire can start while another emergency is already unfolding inside a home. Once smoke appears, exits, working alarms, and a clear place to go can matter within minutes.
The National Fire Protection Association says a home fire escape plan should mark two ways out of every room, including doors and windows.
NFPA also advises placing smoke alarms inside every sleeping room, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of a home.
The Phoenix incident remains under investigation. For now, police have reported one arrest, two people treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and flames that firefighters quickly knocked down inside the home.
