A Florida man is facing multiple charges after police say he used artificial intelligence to create sexually explicit images of women without their consent. Investigators now believe the case may extend considerably further than the victim whose report initially brought the conduct to their attention.
According to the Vero Beach Police Department, 37-year-old Peter Solomon Ruma was arrested following an investigation into altered sexual images that investigators say were both created and distributed. Police say photographs obtained through social media and other online sources were used to create some of the material.
The current charges involve one woman and incidents police say occurred between June and August 2026. However, detectives identified several additional women they believe may have been subjected to similar conduct during the course of their investigation.
Even more concerning, investigators say they have information suggesting Ruma may have engaged in this type of activity for several years. Police consequently believe there could be additional victims who either haven’t been identified or don’t even know altered sexual images depicting them exist.
Police Say Social Media Photos Were Turned Into Explicit Images
Detectives executed search warrants at Ruma’s Vero Beach residence and on his electronic devices as part of the investigation. According to the department, forensic examinations recovered evidence investigators believe is connected to the creation and distribution of altered sexual images.
Police subsequently obtained an arrest warrant charging Ruma with three counts of creation of an altered sexual depiction of an identifiable person and three counts of promotion of an altered sexual depiction of an identifiable person. He was additionally charged with one count each of sexual cyberharassment and stalking.
All three creation charges were filed under Florida Statute 836.13(2), while the promotion charges fall under Florida Statute 836.13(4), according to police. The sexual cyberharassment and stalking charges were filed under Florida Statutes 784.049(3)(a) and 784.048(2), respectively.
The Vero Beach Police Department credited the woman at the center of the current case for coming forward, saying her cooperation was instrumental to the investigation. The agency also thanked the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and State Attorney’s Office for assisting with the case.
Police Believe There Could Be More Victims
Detectives are now asking anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Ruma to contact the department. That request also extends to anyone who received or viewed altered sexual images they believe Ruma may have created or distributed, or who otherwise has information that could assist investigators.
The investigation remains active, and police say additional charges could follow if detectives identify more victims or evidence. Ruma is currently being held at the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office on a $1 million bond.
