Man Pretends to be FedEx Driver, Steals $680,000 Shipment From Warehouse
Two men were posing as FedEx drivers in Delaware and used fraudulent documents to drive away with a trailer carrying more than $680,000 worth of electronics from a warehouse. Only one suspect was arrested after the trailer was found the following day.
35-year-old Dushatdaman Parihar of Manteca, California, was arrested following the Sept. 14 theft from an electronics business in New Castle, according to the Delaware State Police. Two suspects reportedly arrived at the business around 9:15 a.m. in a tractor-trailer cab and identified themselves as FedEx employees.
Parihar and his accomplice presented driver’s licenses and shipping documents for the trailer with the electronics before attaching it to the tractor-trailer they arrived in. They then drove away with the shipment.
The business later determined that the documents were fraudulent and began looking for the stolen trailer. On Sept. 15, the business located the trailer at University Plaza in Newark and called 911.
One Suspect Found
Troopers were speaking with the caller when they saw Parihar walking toward the trailer. He was taken into custody without incident.
The shipment was worth more than $680,000 and was stolen from Emolo Consumer Electronics, located at 1146 River Road, according to NBC Philadelphia.
Eventually, troopers determined that the driver’s license and the registration plate displayed on the tractor-trailer were both fraudulent, according to Delaware State Police.
The trailer was recovered with all the electronics still inside and was returned to Emolo Consumer Electronics. That meant the business recovered the entire shipment before any of the electronics could be reported missing or lost.
Second Suspect Remains Unidentified
The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit is still investigating the incident and has not publicly identified the second suspect.
Parihar was charged with theft where the property value is $100,000 or more, first-degree forgery, second-degree forgery, second-degree conspiracy, and displaying a fictitious registration plate.
He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court and booked into the Delaware Department of Correction on a bond of $66,550, according to the state police.
People online were glad to hear that Parihar was arrested, but many were still concerned that police had not found the second suspect. Others were left puzzled by the fact that he wasn’t charged with no license and no insurance.
Once the second suspect is found, more charges could be filed as the investigations unit continues its work.
Parihar is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
