Well, it would appear Tyler Perry’s next movie should be called Madea Saves the Day, because that’s exactly what the filmmaker is being celebrated for doing after he learned about an 81-year-old woman who was struggling after a pipe burst in her home.
According to the story Perry saw on Fox 32 Chicago, the Illinois woman was displaced for more than six months after her home was flooded when a pipe burst. Brenda Daurham had filed a claim with her insurance company, Allstate, which later denied the claim, leading to a $17,827.96 lien being placed on her property.
Daurham turned to Fox 32 Chicago for help with the situation, which is how Perry learned of the story. He took his frustrations about what was happening to the elderly homeowner to Instagram, calling Allstate out while also pledging to help Daurham get back into the home she had lived in for decades.
“Don’t worry, Ms. Daurham, help is on the way,” he wrote in the post, which quickly went viral. Now, people are celebrating Perry for his quick and generous action.

The film star voiced his frustration on social media on Sept. 2, 2026. “Hey Allstate!! Step to the front real quick,” he wrote in a photo that accompanied news footage from the story. “This woman is 81-years-old. You call this being in good hands?”
After sharing tearful footage from Daurham, Perry ended the post with another message. “Don’t worry, Ms. Daurham, help is on the way,” he wrote.
According to Complex, a follow-up report from Fox 32 Chicago showed one of the reporters becoming visibly emotional when sharing the news that Perry had decided to get involved. “I’m thankful for God that Tyler Perry was able to see the story,” Tia Ewing said. “All I did was tell her story.”
The Lien Was Placed by the Restoration Company
Fox 32 Chicago reports that Allstate denied the homeowner’s claim because the company said the damage was a result of “seepage,” “wear and tear,” and “deterioration,” all of which were considered exclusions to her policy. The restoration company had already done the work prior to the claim being denied, so they placed a mechanic’s lien on Daurham’s property.
According to the outlet, this left Daurham stuck in the middle of the dispute between the contractor and insurer, and she was unable to return to her home as a result.
Commenters Threatened to Boycott the Company
While Perry may have offered to cover the costs associated with the lien, his followers said they would boycott Allstate until the company made things right for Daurham. “Allstate does not want to boycott energy over $17,000. Trust me,” one person commented in response to the post. “They have more than enough to close this out and ensure the claim is covered. Ridiculous.”
Hopefully Perry’s involvement spells the end of this very challenging time for Daurham, who has been out of her home since the middle of February.
