Virginia Contractor’s Arrested After Failing to Start Work on Contracted Remodeling Gig
A contractor in Prince William County, Virginia, has been charged with four felonies after being arrested by Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies. According to the Virginia Judiciary Online Case Information System 2.0, Eyup Onal was arrested on July 17.
Onal was then arraigned on July 23, before being released on his own recognizance. He has been charged under Virginia Code § 18.2-200.1, Failure to perform promise for construction, etc., in return for advances.
The charges stem from work Onal allegedly agreed to perform on behalf of his remodeling company, which has since been dissolved. One homeowner spoke with ABC 7News about the alleged crimes, saying that Onal took a $34,000 deposit for a job he never started work on.
ABC 7News says it has confirmed that there are 17 open complaints with the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation involving Onal’s NV Kitchen and Bath Remodeling company. Some of the homeowners even shared their stories with the outlet.
The Contractor Has Multiple Cases Open Against Him
BREAKING UPDATE: The contractor at the center of my @7NewsDC I-Team investigation has been arrested.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office confirms last night Eyup Onal was arrested on three felony warrants issued by Prince William County. Police previously told 7News the warrants involve allegations of construction fraud.
Onal has since posted the required secured bond and was released from Loudoun County custody.
Our investigation began after a Northern Virginia homeowner told the I-Team he signed a $98,000 remodeling contract with NV Kitchen & Bath and paid the company a $34,000 deposit.
The homeowner says the work never started and he was unable to get his money back after the remodeling company shut its doors.
The homeowner later went to court and obtained a $45K judgment against Onal, who was a no-show at two hearings.
The 7News I-Team started digging and found Onal connected to another remodeling business that remains open for business in Fairfax, which Onal says is owned by his wife.
We tracked down Onal and questioned him about the homeowner’s money and his company, but Onal refused to answer our questions.
Now, Onal has been arrested.
We have reached out to Onal for comment on his arrest. So far, no response.

Virginia Judiciary Online Case Information System 2.0 lists four cases involving Virginia Code § 18.2-200.1, each of which has the charge named as “advance pay, construct >$1,000.” The offense dates vary and include Case Number GC26010663-00 on Feb. 10, Case Number GC26010662-00 on March 23, Case Number GC26010661-00 on April 10, and Case Number GC26119019-00 on June 18.
The most recent instance listed Onal’s current status as being released on his own recognizance, with his preliminary hearing date set to take place on Dec. 14 at 2 p.m.
Some Homeowners Are Still Trying to Get Their Money Back
ABC 7News spoke with some of the homeowners involved in the case, including Adam Giere, who says he hired Onal to replace some flooring and do a full kitchen renovation. However, Giere says Onal never started the work after receiving a $34,000 down payment.
Giere later took his case to civil court, obtaining a $45,000 judgment against Onal, who didn’t show up for the Aug. 27 or Sept. 29 hearing dates. The homeowner says he’s still trying to get his money back.
If convicted, it looks like Onal’s sentencing would fall under the same guidelines used for grand larceny, which carries a one- to 20-year prison sentence and fines of up to $2,500 per conviction, according to Karin Riley Porter’s blog. Of course, Onal has only been charged and hasn’t yet been tried, so he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
