A Maine woman is under arrest after a homeowner discovered her asleep in his bed. The fairytale-esque incident went down on Aug. 20, 2026, when a homeowner in Bangor forgot to lock his door as he left for work. He came home and made the startling discovery, putting a call into 911 a little after 7 a.m., according to WABI.
The Goldilocks in question was later identified as Darcelle Howard, who was arrested at the scene and taken to Penobscot County Jail.
But the plot thickened when another person recognized the booking photo that was shared by the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and called the authorities to report that she appeared to be the same woman they also had a run-in with previously.

Howard is Accused of Accessing Multiple Properties
The 55-year-old was apparently having her Goldilocks and the Three Little Bears moment recently when she wandered into several places she wasn’t supposed to be. And while she ultimately ended up finding the bed that was just right at one man’s house while he was away at work, WABI reports that a property manager later called authorities to say this was the same woman who had ventured into a building without permission after he saw her booking photo on the jail’s website.
It sounds like she had accessed an area where another resident’s belongings were, stealing some of their clothes and leaving a mess on their entryway rug. The property manager had called the police at the time, but since the woman hadn’t yet been identified, there wasn’t much to go on.
She Now Faces Multiple Charges
While Goldilocks was able to fill up on porridge during her fairytale escapades, it seems like Howard may be stuck with jail food for the foreseeable future. That’s because she’s being charged with theft by unauthorized taking, burglary of a dwelling, criminal mischief, and violation of conditions of release.
Fortunately, it sounds like this story has a happy ending. Even with Howard’s alleged criminal mischief and other charges, it doesn’t seem like anyone was hurt in either incident. It also sounds like both parties did exactly what they were supposed to do, according to CPI Security, and they remained calm and called the police right away.
