Crime may not pay, but sometimes criminals can be very cute. At least, that’s what one man living in Scotland discovered recently when he tried to figure out exactly who had been stealing his milk deliveries from his front porch. Determined to bust the thief, homeowner Gordon Campbell set up a camera to get footage of the late-night crime spree.
What he got instead was an up-close and personal view of a four-legged burglar, which he shared on Reddit under the username @gordon_clickboost. The hilariously adorable story quickly made headlines in the U.S. as well, and was picked up by Fox News.
Fortunately, Campbell doesn’t seem angry at the thief, and instead seems to have forgiven the fox for his crimes… even if he has been costing the homeowner a bit of money with the repeated thefts.
The good news is that he has a plan when it comes to making sure these deliveries actually make it inside his home in the future, and it doesn’t involve chasing away his cute neighbor.

The Fox Had Been at It for Weeks
Campbell spoke with Fox News about the discovery, saying that he has been getting milk delivered to his home since the pandemic. The 42-year-old man originally started getting his milk delivered in 2020, but grew frustrated after it recently started disappearing from his doorstep. Campbell joked that he originally thought a “militant vegan” could be behind the missing milk, and he said he set a camera up to finally solve the mystery for himself.
“I didn’t really know exactly who would be doing it,” Campbell recalled. “I thought it was a person or an animal.” And while he originally said he blamed the neighborhood magpies, he just couldn’t figure out how they had managed to roll the bottles away.
Instead, he set up his video camera to capture the fox. On July 20, just after 2:30 a.m., the milk thief finally appeared on camera. And once Campbell got his answers, he said he finally felt better about all the missing milk. “I just thought it was kind of hilarious that this… cute fox was popping up and taking it away,” Campbell said. “All was forgiven when I saw its big ears and its wee face.”

Now that he knows that the issue is a four-legged robber, Campbell says he will get a secure box for his porch for his future milk deliveries.
As for whether he needs to do anything else to keep safe from the fox, the Humane World blog says that foxes are rarely dangerous and don’t attack humans. In fact, they are more likely to run away than to become aggressive when approached, so they are unlikely to bother you as long as you don’t bother them.
However, small pets may not be quite as safe, and the blog says you should be careful with cats or kittens weighing less than 5 pounds, as well as chickens and rabbits.
