3 Lazy Kitchen Cleaning Hacks That Do the Work For You

3 Lazy Kitchen Cleaning Hacks That Do the Work For You

The kitchen is the engine room of the home, but nobody wants to spend their life in the pit crew. If you’re tired of the endless cycle of “cook, eat, scrub, repeat,” it’s time to stop cleaning harder and start cleaning smarter.

Hacking your kitchen’s ecosystem with a few strategic shortcuts helps you neutralize grime before it even settles. Here are three unconventional methods to keep your kitchen gleaming while you barely lift a finger.

1. Line Your Fridge Shelves for Spill Protection

Fridges are great at collecting sticky messes that become almost impossible to clean. Instead of taking everything out to scrub a dirty shelf, try lining your shelves and drawers with paper towels.

This simple trick does two things. First, it catches any spills or leaks, so you can just toss the dirty towel instead of scrubbing. Second, paper towels in your produce drawers absorb excess moisture from fruits and vegetables. This keeps the drawer clean and helps your produce last longer.

Quick Tip: For a more sustainable option, use Swedish dishcloths or cotton rags. They’re just as absorbent and can be washed and reused.

2. Steam Your Microwave to Release Stuck-on Food

Microwaves often get covered in stubborn food splatters, but cleaning them doesn’t have to be hard. Skip the scrubbing and let steam do the work.

Place a microwave-safe bowl with 1 cup of water and a few lemon slices inside. Microwave on high for 3-5 minutes until it boils and fills the microwave with steam. The steam will loosen dried food, and the lemon will help remove odors.

Tip: Leave the door closed for 2 more minutes after the timer to let the steam work. Then, simply wipe the grime away!

3. Let Your Blender Wash Itself

Hand-washing a blender is frustrating and can even be dangerous. Instead of scrubbing near sharp blades, let the motor do the work.

Right after use, fill the pitcher halfway with warm water and a drop of dish soap. Secure the lid and run it on high for 30 seconds. The soapy vortex will blast away residue from the blades and sides. Just rinse and dry!

Quick Tip: Do this immediately. Once food dries and hardens, it’s much tougher to spin off.
