Woman shares what normal yards look like.

Woman’s “Normal” Yard Video is a Refreshing Reality Check for Homeowners

Social media can leave a lot of people feeling bad about the way their homes and yards look. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram allow people to share a carefully curated look at their spaces, typically only highlighting the areas that look the best.

This can lead a lot of people to feel like they aren’t keeping up with today’s standards, either prompting them to spend more money in an effort to meet those expectations or leaving them thinking that something is wrong with their space.

One homeowner on TikTok is trying to help people avoid feelings of inadequacy by showing off what she considers to be a “normal” yard. Her hilarious video really seems to be resonating with people, especially those who are also struggling to keep up with those end-of-season chores (like raking leaves).

“I have never related to anything more,” one person wrote in the comments.

Woman Shows Off Her Messy Yard

@rebeccacryler Realistic homeownership content because not everyone’s house looks like Pinterest 24/7 😂 Here’s what the outside of mine actually looks like.#adhd #adhdtiktok #adhdinwomen #adhdprobs #adhdtok ♬ original sound – rebeccacryler

TikToker @rebeccacryler’s Oct. 22 video followed her as she gave a walking tour of her normal yard, taking a moment to highlight a few areas of concern. First, she stopped right in front of her garage door to show where her family keeps the trash cans. “I like to leave my garbage bins out in front of my house even though we have built a little fence around the corner to hide them because it looks better when you have trash in front of your yard,” she joked.

Next, she showed off her cracked driveway, explaining how they had gotten a quote to replace it, but instead used the money to buy “a ton of outdoor Halloween decorations.”

The video continued to show some of the other “normal” things around her house, including dead plants from Mother’s Day, old pool towels that had been left on the patio, and an indoor rug that she brought out to clean two and a half years ago and forgot about.

People Were Delighted by the Video

Dozens of people jumped into the comments to talk about how their yards looked almost identical, making them feel better about their own “normal” homes.

“Are we twins? Cause same same same,” one person wrote.

“I feel so seen. My neighbor’s yard is immaculate, but I remind myself that they’re retired and I’m a mom in my 30s who works full-time,” another added.

“This is so funny, my house is the same,” a third person wrote. “We also have a bonus broken garbage can that had the wheels fall off it. It’s been parked in the middle of the back porch. For two years.”

It’s clear that the video was a breath of fresh air for some of the TikTokers’ followers, giving them a chance to see their own lives reflected in it as they scrolled the app. It also offered a reminder that we don’t have to have perfectly curated yards and lives.
