Color drench bathroom.

Woman Transforms Boring Builder-Grade Bathroom With Bold Green Makeover, and People Love It

There’s a technique in the world of interior design that is known as color drenching. It involves using a single color (or colors that are very close to one another) on every surface of a room. For example, a color-drenched bedroom may use dark blue paint on the ceiling, walls, and trim.

According to CertaPro Painters, there are some benefits to color drenching. These include making smaller spaces feel larger, since there are fewer visual transitions between surfaces, giving the space a more expansive feel.

That makes color-drenching the perfect fit for spaces like bathrooms, which tend to be on the smaller side. Now, one woman is showing off her bathroom’s dramatic transformation.

People can’t get over the difference the deep green made in her formerly builder-grade bathroom, which was mostly stark white with brown flooring.

The Bathroom Was Her Husband’s Dream

According to Andrea Hariss’ post in the Colorful Bohemian, Moody & Maximalist DIY Home Decor | Farmhouse & Cozy Idea group, her husband had always dreamed of having a green bathroom. In the caption accompanying the photos, Hariss described herself as an ‘amateur DIYer’ and explained how the makeover came together.

However, the final results looked anything but amateur, as Hariss showed off the green walls, ceiling, and trim. While she didn’t truly stick to the traditional concept of color drenching—the flooring, wallpaper, and vanity were all different colors—she did add enough green to the room to make it feel awash in the color.

Commenters Were Obsessed

It’s not often that people on the internet can agree on something, which makes the fact that the commenters almost universally loved the bathroom a really big deal. “It’s truly beautiful,” one person wrote. “You gave builder-grade such personality.”

Some people also had suggestions for the homeowner. “Love! Switch out the outlet cover and light switch cover with gold! Come do my bathroom,” one person wrote.

Although the makeover was clearly a hit, blogger Nadine Stay wrote on her blog that color-drenching isn’t always a good idea. She says that it should typically be avoided in rooms where lighting is limited or when there are architectural details that you want to emphasize.

That being said, deciding what color (or colors) to paint a home is a deeply personal choice and should always be determined by the people who have to live there.
