A scary scene unfolded in a Trenton, Maine, home when a woman and her dog barely escaped a blaze that destroyed their property. Trenton Volunteer Fire Department – Maine shared details about the early morning fire that happened on July 27, 2026. According to a Facebook post, which shows photos of the structure, the homeowner was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Fortunately, the dog was rescued without incident and was taken to stay with family members until the homeowner was well enough to be released from the local hospital. The story was picked up by local media outlets like WABI 5, which also reported on the fire.
Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is now investigating the fire to see what started the blaze.
Meanwhile, the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department has expressed its gratitude to everyone who helped with the fire, crediting them with getting the “challenging incident under control.”
The Fire Broke Out Early in the Morning
It was just 4:49 a.m. when the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department says they were dispatched to the Baxters Ledge Road home. “Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a working structure fire with heavy fire involvement that had extended through the roof,” the caption that accompanied the chilling photos of what was left of the home read. “Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack, and crews from Trenton, along with mutual aid departments, worked together to contain and extinguish the blaze.”
According to the post, the homeowner was able to escape on their own and was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance. The dog was rescued without injury shortly after.
The fire must’ve been a complex one, because hours after it was extinguished, volunteers remained at the scene looking for hot spots and rekindles, according to the post.
Firefighters Believe the Fire Started Outside
It’s too early to release an official report about the cause of the fire, but officials have reason to believe the blaze started outside. When scary events happen like this, it’s important to have an emergency plan in place.
While the homeowner may not have known that anything was wrong until the fire was fully underway, it’s important for those with pets to have a plan in place should something like this happen. According to First Alert, something as simple as adding a sign to your window alerting fire rescue officials about your pets could make a huge difference in their survival.
