Storage Hacks That Will Make Your Home Feel Twice as Big

Storage Hacks That Will Make Your Home Feel Twice as Big

Unless you live a minimalist lifestyle, chances are you’ve struggled with storage in your home. This is true for most people, whether they have a studio apartment or a four-bedroom house.

We tend to like to cram as much as we can in any given space, but that can result in messy, cluttered storage spaces. So what’s a person to do? Employ these storage hacks, obviously!

From the bedroom to the bathroom, the kitchen, and all the spaces in between, we have some simple storage solutions you can use today.

Use Vertical Hanging Systems in Closets

No matter how much you wish you had unlimited closet space, the reality is you’re limited to what your home has. Until now.

There are many types of vertical hanging systems designed just for your closet space, but if that’s out of your budget, don’t fret. Go to the local hardware store, pick up a few utility chains and S hooks, and hang them in your closet. Use each of the links to hold a hanger, and voila! You now have even more space. So next time you see a deal you can’t pass up, you don’t have to worry about where you’ll put it.

Hang a Shoe Organizer in the Bathrooms…

… and don’t use it for shoes. Wait, what? Trust me, there’s a method to the madness here.

If you’re like me and have a lot of bathroom products taking up valuable real estate on the counter, you can clear it up by hanging a shoe organizer on the back of the bathroom door. Then, use the slots to hold your products. Hair dryer? Check. Mirror? Hair clips? Brushes and combs? Check, check, check.

Take Advantage of Vertical Space in Kitchens

If you have a smaller kitchen, you might be frustrated with the lack of space, especially if you have smaller countertops.

This is where pegboards come in handy. And spoiler alert? They’re not just for garages or craft rooms! You can install one in the kitchen, add some hooks, and store your utensils, towels, and some food items right on it. As a bonus, the things you use most will be within quick reach.

Place Lazy Susans in Your Cabinets

Lazy Susans, or spinning racks, were all the rage decades ago, and they’re back en vogue for good reason. They make it so easy to take advantage of vertical space in your cabinets, which is often left untouched and quite frankly, a waste.

You can find these nifty storage solutions in any home goods store, or on Amazon, in a variety of sizes. Use them for your spices, hot sauces, canned goods, and so much more, and never complain about wasted space again.

Hang Storage Rods in the Kitchen

Yep, you read that right. If you’re looking for more storage space and you have frying or cast iron pans with handles, you can hang them on a curtain rod and hang them on the wall, rather than storing them in cabinets and taking up valuable space.

If you go this route, make sure you have one that can handle the weight you put on it. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a bigger mess — and likely some damage, eek.

Install Floating Shelves

Many living areas have bookshelves, TV stands, and storage cubes. However, if you have a smaller living room or you can’t stand the thought of one. more. cabinet. There’s a great solution: floating shelves.

These come in many different styles and colors and are relatively simple to install. Like the rod in the kitchen, though, make sure not to overload the shelves, because they will come down under duress.

Use Bins Under Cabinets

Whether it’s in the kitchen or bathroom, if you store products such as cleaning supplies or hair styling goods under the cabinet, it can get really messy really quickly.

Buy some cheap bins — seriously, they can be ones from the dollar store — and use them to hold your goods. That will keep them organized and easy to reach when you know exactly what you want.

Buy a Shower Curtain With Built-in Storage

Have you ever seen a shower curtain with pockets? It’s like a dress, but for your bathroom!

These actually serve a purpose, especially if you have very little space to store shampoos, body washes, and loofahs in your tub or shower. The pockets can hold all of your essentials. If you hate the idea of someone seeing that when they use your restroom, just use that particular curtain as a liner and hang a decorative one on the outside.

Buy Plastic Storage Containers for the Refrigerator

With the new age of minimalism, refrigerator containers have grown in popularity. I personally use them because they really allow me to take advantage of the vertical storage that goes widely unused. I simply stack the containers on top of each other (many have lids).

You can buy them in many different sizes and shapes. Some even have specific purposes, such as dividing your vegetable drawer or storing eggs, so you don’t have to fit the container strategically. They’re cheap, and you can find them at TJ Maxx or HomeGoods.
