Realtor Jokes Even a Haunted House Is Worth It With a 2% Mortgage Rate
Mortgage rates have been a hot topic for homebuyers and industry professionals for some time. That, combined with current housing prices, has put the dream of homeownership out of reach for many.
Of course, that has had a negative impact on the people who rely on home sales to make a living, like real estate agents. That’s likely what prompted one agent to create a hilarious video about the state of the market.
TikToker @marie.murillo.realtor posted a video showing what concessions modern homebuyers were willing to make if they could get a good deal on a house. The video was perfectly timed as well, since it featured a haunted house theme that’s perfect for spooky season.
Marie’s followers definitely enjoyed the spoof as well, and they built on the joke in the comments, adding their own hilarious additions to the concept of a haunted house that homebuyers would die to get into.
The Video Featured a Spectral Roommate

Usually, when you purchase a new home, it doesn’t come with a roommate, but that’s exactly what the house in Marie’s video contained. “When the house is haunted, but the interest rate is 2 percent,” the video’s caption said.
In the short clip, a ghostly woman with long dark hair and a white sheet moved quietly through the home, as though her spirit had remained trapped there after her death. But Marie didn’t care about the home’s unwanted visitor, since it was a small price to pay for such a good deal. In fact, she frequently invited the ghost to join her, offering her some wine and even letting her read a book over her shoulder.
Commenters Had a Good Laugh Over the Idea
The people in Marie’s comments were more scared of the current interest rates than they were of the idea of moving into a haunted house. “That is the perfect roommate,” one person wrote. “You have low interest for the house and you don’t have to feed them cause it’s a ghost.”
“Can ghostie fold some laundry? Mama could use a helping hand,” another joked. “We’re roommates now ghostie. I’m never leaving!”
Unfortunately, anyone hoping to score a 2 percent interest rate (with or without a ghost) may be waiting a long time. That’s because Yahoo! Finance predicts that rates will remain above 6 percent through 2031. That being said, the outlet does note that forecasts can change at any time, which means nothing is written in stone yet.
