Cozy homes.

People Celebrate Their ‘Cozy’ and ‘Ordinary’ Homes in Viral Post

Social media trends frequently have people feeling left out. Whether it’s those lavish vacations or people who share the details of their seemingly perfect days, followers can find themselves suffering from a major case of FOMO (fear of missing out) when their lives don’t align with what they see online.

However, a new post on Threads has people doing just the opposite. That’s because Threads user @homewithwangui shared a post inviting their followers to do something a little different. “Can we normalize celebrating cozy homes built on ordinary incomes,” the post read.

It seems like this was the exact trend that people had been looking for, since the thread immediately went viral, receiving more than 33,000 likes and almost 2,000 comments after it was posted. And while a lot of people simply commented to say how much they appreciated such a down-to-Earth approach, others shared pictures from their own homes.

As @homewithwangui later said in a follow-up post, “The comments passed the vibe check.” Take a look at what people had to say about their own spaces and lifestyles.

People Were Happy to Show Off Their Homes

There was no shortage of commenters who immediately jumped into the post with photos of their homes, like one person who shared a picture from inside their living room. “Nonprofit babe making the most of my sad salary,” she wrote.

Another person showed off their stunning home decor. “80 percent of my home is thrifted or found for free,” they captioned the picture, which featured a beautiful chandelier and ornate gold-framed artwork. “It can certainly be done on a small budget!”

Yet another person posted a side-by-side of some of the changes they’ve made, showing the before and after. “Yes! First-time homeowner, renovation funded by me, check by check,” they wrote. “Same room, windows replaced, plaster replaced, floors refinished, and decor from my very last apartment mixed with some new pillow covers.”

The Median Salary Varies by Location

When it comes to what you might consider an ordinary salary, it’s important to know that this figure varies by region as well as by age. According to Fidelity, the median salary ranged from $31,356 per year to $74,620 per year, with those who were ages 45 to 54 making the most, and those ages 16 to 19 making the least.

Meanwhile, people who live in places like California, Massachusetts, New York, Washington State, and Washington, D.C. all tended to make the most money. So, what may feel ordinary to one person could feel extraordinary to others, depending on how old they are or where they live.

That being said, the thread was a nice reminder that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and any home can be considered cozy as long as that’s how the person who lives there feels about it.
