Neighbors’ Paid Parking Spot Dispute Turns Into Six-Year Feud
Six years after a disagreement over a paid parking spot, one apartment resident says the neighbor involved is still finding ways to interfere with life around their home.
In a Sept. 14 post to Reddit’s r/neighborsfromhell community, u/omglifeisnotokay shared that the trouble began when an upstairs neighbor argued that she should be entitled to the parking space because her apartment sits above the garage where u/omglifeisnotokay parks.
The neighbor later complained about hearing the resident’s work calls and asked for the windows to be closed. Then, the poster says, she has begun getting involved with gardeners and maintenance work around the ground-floor apartment.
The latter dilemma has had a cascade effect around the property, according to u/omglifeisnotokay. The resident believes that their neighbor’s interference has “contributed to repeated watering, rotting vegetation,” and a separate, larger disagreement with the property owners concerning repairs and rats around the unit.
The Resident Says Cameras Caught Some Of It

In follow-up comments, u/omglifeisnotokay said security cameras captured roughly 10 minutes of footage involving the landscaping issue.
“I’ve shown the owners and they were still allowing her to do it,” they added. “I think after the 4th complaint and the footage of her pointing at my unit while directing the gardeners, it was proof enough that she was indeed causing property damage.”
The resident also said they have now reported the situation to a city attorney’s office and filed for a rent reduction over damage and repairs they say remain unresolved.
U/omglifeisnotokay feels that much of this can be traced back to a dispute over a parking space. On Reddit, multiple users were dismayed by that particular detail. “She wants your parking spot?” asked u/Gadgetman_1. The original poster thought about having the neighbor’s vehicle towed as definitive proof that it’s their assigned spot. However, u/01Cipher cautioned that things could get “messy” quickly with this passive-aggressive approach.
Too Much Water Really Can Hurt Landscaping
On Sept. 16, the original poster shared that “The landscapers now sometimes arrive with their faces covered except for their eyes,” adding that they “have footage of them swinging the hose around, laughing, and spraying excess water onto my windows while directly in view of the cameras.”
Although u/omglifeisnotokay did not specify the vegetation’s original or recommended care routine, there is merit to feeling concern over any changes to the landscaping. Penn State Extension explains that soil kept excessively wet can deprive plant roots of oxygen and create conditions that promote root diseases.
Additionally, poorly maintained vegetation can make a property more inviting to rodents, though u/omglifeisnotokay did not mention a formal investigation linking the two in their specific scenario yet. The University of California Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program does recommend keeping a garden free of garbage and thinning any dense vegetation because rats can use shrubs, ground cover, and other plant growth for shelter.
Although u/omglifeisnotokay has blocked her number and tries to keep their distance, sometimes the neighbor can be seen “staring at the plants and the grass by my unit like she’s plotting something or seeing if I home,” this in spite of three wired cameras keeping a close watch of their own.
