Man cleans yards for free.

Landscaper Transformed a Neglected Property for Free, Not Everyone Was Happy About It

A landscaper is going viral for his work around the community. The owner of SB Mowing routinely shares some of the volunteer work he does, which involves helping to take care of unkempt yards for free, cutting the grass, and trimming back overgrowth.

In his latest video, he showed how he completely transformed an abandoned house that had gotten so overgrown that the city had begun leaving notices on the door. According to the video, the previous owner had passed away, and the home had been taken back by the bank.

However, the bank had struggled to find a buyer, so the property had been sitting vacant. During that time, the grass had grown out of control, creating a massive eyesore for neighbors. What’s worse is that SB Mowing says that the property sits on a main street, so it’s hard to escape the ragged look of the place.

In an effort to help, the man grabbed his tools and set out to give the property a makeover, trimming back all of the overgrowth and tending to the yard so that the community could once again enjoy the neighborhood, much to the shock of the people who lived nearby.

Man Mows Lawns for Free

The man filmed himself chatting with a neighbor before he got started, asking the guy who lived next door about the property. That’s when he learned about the previous owner’s death. Not only that, but he got some of the backstory about the property as well, learning that there had been at least two notices hung on the door, calling the property a nuisance.

When the landscaper made a comment to the neighbor about cleaning up the yard, the neighbor suggested that he reach out to the bank to get a contract going so that he could get paid for the work. When the landscaper told the man he planned to do it for free to improve the neighborhood, the older gentleman called him “crazy.”

Crazy or not, the landscaper got to work cleaning up the property, and then he showed off his progress with a very satisfying time-lapse video.

People Had Mixed Responses in the Comments

While some people applauded the landscaper’s generosity, others worried about the wildlife. “That’s quite the property; it was a wildflower field by then, you made some bees unhappy,” one person wrote.

“Well, even if it was an eyesore, the butterflies and bees probably liked it,” another added.

Then some were frustrated that the bank didn’t keep up with the yard work. “If banks are involved in the resale or repossession, they should be [held] accountable for ‘curb side appeal’ at the very least,” someone wrote.

According to GreenPal, the bank may not be responsible for maintaining the lawn right away. That’s because the landscaping website says that they are usually only permitted to take over care and maintenance after the title has officially been transferred. In this case, the owner’s death may have complicated things, especially if the property had to go through any sort of probate before it could be transferred, which could explain the overgrown lawn.
