A Las Vegas homeowner was out of town when security cameras reportedly caught someone trying to get inside the house, and a police drone helped officers find the suspect within seconds.
The incident happened May 12 near Desert Inn Road and Arville Street, according to FOX5 Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the homeowner received a camera alert and called police.
LVMPD said a drone launched from a SkyPort and arrived overhead quickly, locating the suspect outside the residence. A drone pilot and dispatcher then helped guide responding officers to the suspect’s location.
The Homeowner Was Away When The Alert Came In
A break-in attempt can go unnoticed for hours if no one is home and no alert reaches the owner.
In this case, police said the homeowner called Metro after getting the camera alert. The available report does not say what kind of camera system was used, whether the home had an alarm, or whether anything was taken.
The Drone Located The Suspect Within Seconds
LVMPD said the drone launched from a SkyPort and found the suspect outside the home within seconds. FOX5 reported that the drone pilot and dispatcher then worked together to guide officers to the suspect.
Police said the drone program is meant to improve response times and give officers better awareness before they arrive. LVMPD said it has flown more than 12,000 drone flights so far in 2026, and that drones are arriving before officers more than 70% of the time.
For homeowners, cameras, lights, alarms, and fast reporting matter most when they give police useful information while something is still happening.
If someone appears to be trying to enter a home, residents should call police, share the clearest information they have, and avoid guessing about details they cannot confirm from the footage.
