Homeowner Gives Skelly a Gruesome Viral Makeover
The massive Halloween skeletons have been popular since the pandemic. And while they’ve seen a lot of controversy over the years—like the towns that have started banning the skeletons in the off-months, telling homeowners they need to pack their bony friends away once Halloween ends—there are still plenty of people looking for new and exciting ways to set up their displays.
That’s where TikToker @chelseamakesmagic comes in. She says she’s found the perfect way to give her skeleton a gruesome makeover that makes the beloved skeleton look a little worse for wear.
She shared her how-to on her popular lifestyle page, and it instantly took off, gaining more than 85,400 views in less than a week. Many of her followers have commented on how scary the makeover makes the skeleton look, while others are curious what she’s going to do with the massive decoration after October 31st passes.
Love it or hate it, this scary skeleton definitely stands out from the rest. Whether that ends up making him a hit around the neighborhood remains to be seen.
TikToker Shares How She Made Her Massive Skeleton Scarier
@chelseamakesmagicHe’s still… juicy. 💀 I transformed my giant 8-foot skeleton into a realistic-looking outdoor Halloween decoration using just wood stain, plastic wrap, and a heat gun! 🎃 Here are the 4 easy steps: 1. Cover skelly in a dark wood stain. Let dry. 2. Cover in plastic wrap. 3. Melt the plastic wrap to the bones using a heat gun on the lowest setting. 4. Add another coat of wood stain and let dry!♬ Spooky, Scary Skeletons (House VIP Remix) – Crystal Knives & Lex Allen
Chelsea showed her followers how easily she gave her skeleton a new look, adding just a few extra touches to his existing frame to make him seem more terrifying to passersby. All she needed was some brown stain, plastic wrap, and a heat gun.
She first covered the skeleton with the stain, coating him in heavy layers of the stain, allowing it to dry. Next, she wrapped all of his bones with the plastic wrap. Once that was done, she hit the entire skeleton with a heat gun on the lowest setting, melting the plastic wrap onto the skeleton, before adding a second coat of stain that gave him a decidedly juicy look.
People Had Mixed Feelings About the Transformation
Chelsea’s followers certainly had a lot to say about the controversial makeover. “But how are you going to take it apart?” one person wondered.
“My HOA would have a cow,” another person added.
Then there were those who found the design a little too scary. “That’s absolutely terrifying … I love it,” someone wrote.
“Oh. Yeah, I hate that. Good job,” another person chimed in. “Excellent execution.”
While the design may be too scary for some younger or more sensitive neighbors, it’s unlikely that Chelsea will get in any real trouble for having the scarier skeleton on her property, according to Newsweek, which said that homeowners don’t typically get in trouble over something spooky. However, those rules can vary by city, like in Irvine, California, where realistically scary decor could earn you a $500 fine.
The outlet also noted that some Halloween enthusiasts could find themselves in trouble if they violated local rules, like noise ordinances. Otherwise, it seems like most people would be well within their rights to make their own juicy skeleton if they wanted to, as long as they didn’t find it too scary to have in front of their home, that is.
