American Airlines is Building Its Largest-Ever Admirals Club in Busy Hub Charlotte International
American Airlines is building a new Admirals Club at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, the largest in the airline’s network. The lounge will cover more than 40,000 square feet.
American announced the project on October 6. According to the airline, construction will start this year on the mezzanine level above the airport’s main atrium.
Charlotte is American’s second-largest hub. On its busiest days, the airline operates more than 650 flights from CLT to over 180 destinations in 27 countries.
The Charlotte Business Journal reports that the current 23,000-square-foot Admirals Club near Concourses C and D will move into the new space. American is aiming for an early 2028 opening.

The new club will sit above the atrium, where travelers will be able to look down over the concourse.
American says it will have shower suites, bars, food areas and different places to sit, eat or work. The design will also include details tied to Charlotte’s tree canopy and textile history.
The Charlotte Business Journal reports that the new lounge will hold about 650 to 675 people. The smaller Admirals Club in Concourse B is staying where it is.
American has already been adding lounge space at CLT
Last year, Charlotte became the first airport to get American’s Provisions by Admirals Club. The 2,000-square-foot space near Gate A1 is meant more for grabbing food and getting back to the gate than spending a long layover inside.
American also announced plans in 2025 to bring its first Flagship lounge to Charlotte. That is a separate project from the new 40,000-square-foot Admirals Club. The airline has not announced an opening date for the Flagship lounge yet.
Most passengers at CLT are making a connection
Charlotte Douglas handled 53.6 million passengers in 2025, the second-highest total in airport history. The airport says 65% of its passengers were connecting through Charlotte rather than starting their trip there.
American’s existing Admirals Clubs in Concourses B and C/D and the Provisions lounge near Gate A1 will stay open while the new club is under construction.
