It’s no fun going out to pick up an expected package only to find out porch pirates have beaten you to it. However, one homeowner in Nevada found out their dog food delivery had been broken into by a surprising culprit.
A doorbell camera captured footage of the furry thief, which was later shared on social media. Unsurprisingly, the video quickly went viral, with outlets like ABC News also posting the funny video.
The good news is that the homeowner has an easy fix on their hands if they want to prevent future break-ins (like having their deliveries left in a lock box). The bad news is that they definitely need to replace this food shipment, since the masked bandit had already gone to town before they realized something was up.
Out of all of the different package thieves out there, this was probably the cutest option. Although it’s unlikely that the dog was happy about having to share its food—no matter how cute this burglar was.
Raccoon Breaks Into Dog Food Delivery
A Nevada homeowner shared some home security footage recently that showed a raccoon coming onto the porch to break into a shipment that had been left on the doorstep. The short video shows the raccoon ripping into the cardboard box, eventually getting to the dog food that had been sealed inside.
According to ABC News, the video went on for a little bit, showing how the raccoon continued to chow down on the food, alternating between ripping more cardboard away and shoving its face deeper into the box.
The Viral Video Drew a Lot of Laughs and Commiseration From Viewers
It would appear that the Nevada homeowner isn’t the only one dealing with raccoon drama. According to several commenters on the video, there have been other instances of raccoons behaving badly. “I had a whole family of raccoons on my porch chowing down on cat food, and another stole my DoorDash. Rascals,” one person wrote.
“Easter morning, the kids looked out the window before heading out and questioned why Easter eggs were open,” another person wrote. “Sure enough, 80 percent of the eggs were opened, with candy wrappers all over the yard, with the video proof that it was one single raccoon.”
Raccoons are undeniably cute, but Critter Control advises against letting those adorable faces fool you. In addition to stealing your deliveries and eating your pet’s food, they can also become aggressive if they think you’re a threat to their young. Additionally, they are known carriers of rabies, which is typically spread through bites.
That’s why it’s important to give wild animals like these a wide berth when you spot them around your property, limiting the amount of exposure you have to the wild animal.
