A woman who wanted to be married in the backyard she grew up in got her wish after her father spent eight months rebuilding the space to match what she had always pictured. Nina Salci said that when she got engaged, she told her dad she wanted to hold the wedding in the family backyard, specifically at the cabana he had built there years earlier, according to Upworthy. The yard was an important place to Salci for her entire life. She said the cabana had been the backdrop for her prom and graduation photos and for many of the milestones that came before her wedding. It was the place she pictured when she imagined her wedding day, rather than any outside venue. That’s why she wanted it there for the most important day of her life, in her eyes.
Her father’s preparation took around a year. Over eight months, he watered, built, trimmed, and planted to fix up the cabana. He power-washed the deck, cleared branches, and got rid of weeds, all to turn the family backyard into the wedding venue his daughter had described. That led to Salci adding the caption, “Dad if you see this.. you are my hero” to her video.
Salci married Alejandro Franco in that very backyard on December 16, 2022, in a Tuscan-garden-inspired ceremony that included an olive-oil-jar seating wall and chef’s stations for dinner. Commenters said it was the backdrop, and the story behind it, that moved them, since the cabana at the center of the day was something her father had built for her long before.
