9/11 Tribute Turns Into an Adorable Kitten Rescue Operation
On Sept. 11, 2026, people all across the country gathered to remember the lives that were lost 25 years ago when terrorists used airplanes to attack the U.S. While these events are typically somber ones, reserved to honor those who died as well as the friends and family left behind, at least one ceremony had a spot of levity.
The Coral Springs Fire Department says that its 9/11 ceremony was interrupted by an event crasher who had gotten stuck in one of the trucks, and they posted about the little visitor on its Facebook page. “During this morning’s September 11 Remembrance Ceremony, our crews received an unexpected rescue assignment when a tiny kitten found itself stuck on our very own platform truck,” a caption accompanying several cute photos read.
The Kitten Had to Be Freed by the Fire Department During the Ceremony
According to the post, the brown-and-white tabby found himself in trouble at the best possible time, since firefighters were already on scene. They were able to free the cat and almost immediately handed him over to the open arms of a woman attending the event.
Photos show the moment that one of the firefighters put the kitten into the woman’s arms, where he eventually snuggled up into her neck. “We hear his new name might just be ‘Hero,'” the caption concluded.
Hero’s New Owner Jumped Into the Comments
According to a comment from the person claiming to be the woman in the photos, the kitten is settling in nicely. And while the woman confirmed she decided to stick with the name Hero, she shared some surprising news as well.
“Turns out our ‘little guy’ is actually a little girl,” the comment said. “She had her vet visit this morning and is healthy, thriving, and settling beautifully into her new home. Thank you again to CSFD for rescuing our tiny Hero… we absolutely adore her already!”
People Fell in Love With Hero and Her Story in the Comments
A lot of folks followed Hero’s story carefully, sharing their thoughts in the comments. “The Cat Distribution System strikes again,” one person wrote. “Glad the little cutie found a good home!”
Another person shared a similar sentiment, writing, “The cat distribution system [sent] him on 9/11 for comfort and love.”
The reason why people constantly joke about stray cats is because there really are so many of them out in the world. According to Catster, there’s believed to be between 60 and 100 million feral and stray cats in this country alone. While that may make you tempted to believe that those numbers prove that there’s nothing that unusual about this story, it does seem kind of fitting that this particular stray happened upon this exact crowd at this exact moment, just when she was probably needed the most.
