A Vehicle Ended Up Vertical Against a Wilmington Porch After Hitting a Pole and Two Fences

A vehicle in Wilmington, California, came to rest standing nearly vertical against the front porch of a home early Sunday morning after striking a utility pole, a parked car, and multiple fences along the Pacific Coast Highway. The homeowners were inside the residence at the time. They told reporters they heard a loud bang when the crash occurred.

According to KTLA 5 and the Los Angeles Police Department, the crash happened at around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, in the 1000 block of Pacific Coast Highway in the Wilmington neighborhood. The vehicle, traveling westbound, swerved left and struck a city electrical pole and a parked car. From there, it crashed into a fence and then overturned into a second fence.

That second fence was up against the porch of a home. The damaged vehicle came to rest against the porch in a near-vertical position. Video from the scene shows the car on its rear end, propped up against the porch and fence, with debris scattered across the property.

Despite the dramatic scene, no one was hurt. No arrests were made at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Police said speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.

How the Vehicle Went Vertical

After initially swerving, the vehicle kept driving forward and crashed into a fence. It then overturned into a second fence. That second fence sat directly against the front porch of a home, and the vehicle came to rest against the porch in a near-vertical position. It remained propped up against the debris in its way, so it didn’t have the ability to fall forward or backward into place.

In video and photos shared by KTLA and credited to OnScene.TV, the heavily damaged car can be seen standing nearly upright against the porch and fence, with debris scattered across the property. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews also responded to the scene because of damage to the city’s electrical pole, which the vehicle had struck on its way through the property.

Police Are Currently Investigating

The homeowners who were there to witness the crash declined to appear on camera. A nearby witness, identified by KTLA only by his first name, Michael, said the vehicle seemed to be traveling at a high speed before the crash. He told the station the car had gone between the parked vehicle and the light pole. Despite having seen a lot of crashes in the area, this one stood out as extremely unusual due to its placement and how it occurred.

The Los Angeles Police Department told KTLA that no one was injured and that no arrests had been made at the scene. Further investigation will reveal any further insights. At this moment, it’s not completely understood how this incident happened in the first place. Police will likely release additional details as they arise in the coming days.
