When you think of Valentine’s Day, what comes to mind? If you said a romantic, candlelit dinner out, you’re not alone. According to a recent survey, two-thirds of Americans plan to make a restaurant reservation to celebrate the special day.
However, planning that special date can often feel stressful. Restaurants are incredibly busy on Valentine’s, usually second only to Mother’s Day in bookings. Finding reservations for the date can require planning several weeks in advance, and more than 40% of people describe Valentine’s Day as at least somewhat stressful.
In 2026, a growing number of couples are looking for alternative ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day that focus on connection and wellness, rather than adding stress.
More than ever, peace and calm are high on our needs list, and local wellness businesses offer unique ways for couples to connect this Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Spa Package
Looking for an opportunity to decompress and relax together this Valentine’s Day? Many local spas offer couples massages where you can both relax together in a luxurious spa setting. A massage is a therapeutic way to spend Valentine’s Day, with spas offering curated romantic packages including wine and chocolate, or special treats. If you book a couples massage, therapists work on each individual and can offer customized massages. Prioritizing rest and relaxation is an act of love for your significant other.
Romantic Yoga
For those looking to take a more active approach to the holiday, yoga is a great way to move with your partner! Some classes geared towards couples have partners share a yoga mat and support one another in poses. You can work to be in sync as you practice gentle stretches and breathwork together. Couples that move together, stay together, right?
Couples Meditation
Meditating is another joint activity where you can let go of all the noise that accumulates during the week. Partners can practice breathing and mindfulness together. Classes offer guided techniques such as sound meditation using Tibetan bowls, chimes, and crystals. There is a strong connection when couples sync their breathing or use techniques that include gazing into each other’s eyes.
You can even do this from the comfort of your own home. Find a quiet space in your house and light lots of candles to set the mood. There are countless guides through podcasts or online where you can follow along.
Connection Through Wellness
While not a spa in a traditional sense, I recently discovered Altered State Wellness and took my husband with me for a pre-Valentine’s date. A true wellness retreat, Altered State offers many self-care options, including sensory deprivation float therapy, sauna, cold plunge, red light therapy, and more.
We settled on a sauna and cold plunge session, as well as red light therapy and their romantic Valentine’s package. The experience was different from anything we have done together, and it was such a peaceful escape. We put away our phones and enjoyed the one-on-one time with one another.
The wellness-based experience is designed to help couples slow down, reconnect, and truly enjoy one another. We enjoyed charcuterie and champagne in an intimate setting, taking turns soaking in the red light therapy while asking questions prompted by cards thoughtfully left to spark reflective conversation. It was a unique activity that brought peace and stillness, a meaningful shift from the usual pressure-filled holiday.
Broaden Your Romantic Horizons
After years of celebrating romance over a fancy dinner, there was something refreshing about experiencing connection in a new way. There is a strong link between love and wellness. A survey found that 54% of respondents felt their habits around diet, exercise, and sleep improved when they were in a relationship, and who doesn’t want better overall well-being?
Instead of the usual hustle and bustle of making reservations and competing for a small piece of a crowded candlelit restaurant, maybe it’s time to lean into a different focus this February. Why not move away from the stereotypical Valentine’s Day celebration and prioritize connection and wellness with your partner?
