Woman Flooded Her New Home Just Moments After Buying It
Just about every homeowner knows to expect the unexpected when they purchase a house. Homes can come with all kinds of expenses and challenges, and things can break down or go wrong, leaving homeowners with surprise costs.
However, many homeowners think that they’ll have at least a few months before they have to deal with anything major in their home, especially if they paid to have an inspection done before closing on the property. But one woman on TikTok says she didn’t even get a few hours to enjoy her new house before it flooded.
To make matters worse, she says she was responsible for the flooding, since she failed to check one important thing as they were moving in. Now she’s sharing her story with her followers in the hopes that nobody else has to deal with a similar mess.
The good news is that it looks like this issue was an easy fix (once she got all the water cleaned up), and hopefully she was able to laugh about the whole ordeal once the floors dried.

TikToker @courtneylhill shared the story of how she accidentally flooded her home just “seconds” after she purchased it. “When you bought your first house literally two seconds ago and you already accidentally flooded it,” the text over the video said.
In the clip, Courtney could be seen using a broom to sweep soapy water toward what appears to be a garage, where two men were also cleaning up.
People Were Stunned by the Mess
Courtney didn’t initially share how she flooded the house in her video, but she eventually spilled the beans in the comments after several people asked what happened. “Life tip: Make sure your washing machine is connected before using it,” she responded.
Lots of people left sympathetic messages in response to the video, including several people who were too stunned to do more than leave crying emojis behind.
The Incident May Not Be Covered by Insurance
One of the people in the comments made a joke about how Courtney would explain the mess to her homeowners insurance company. However, Courtney’s mistake may not qualify for coverage under traditional policies.
According to Insure.com, standard insurance policies only cover the water damage caused by a washing machine if the issue stemmed from a sudden and accidental incident, like a burst hose. So, not having the hose hooked up at all may not count as a qualifying event.
That being said, it looks like Courtney was on top of the cleanup. Hopefully she was able to get all of the water moved out of her hallway before it could soak into the flooring, creating an even bigger mess for the new homeowner.
