This Long-Closed Maryland Water Park is Finally Being Rebuilt for a 2027 Reopening
A Maryland water park that hasn’t welcomed swimmers since 2023 is finally being rebuilt. The Town of Chesapeake Beach says construction is underway on a new version of the Chesapeake Beach Water Park, with plans to reopen in 2027.
The park has been closed while the town works through major problems with its aging infrastructure. Town leaders once hoped to reopen it for the 2025 season, but later said the park needed more extensive renovations than originally expected.
The reopening was then pushed to 2026, but that timeline changed again as plans for the project grew. The town’s current project page now says the new water park is under construction and will reopen in 2027.
Work is already happening at the site. The town announced in July that the project had officially entered the demolition phase, with fencing going up around part of the property.
What Will the New Water Park Look Like?

The town has released new concept renderings showing updated slides, aquatic features and a water play area. However, the town warns that the images are still conceptual, so the final colors, materials and features could look different.
The project will also replace aging infrastructure and improve safety, accessibility and the park’s operational efficiency. The town says it wants to update the water park without completely changing the familiar feel of the old one.
The Project Will Cost $19 Million
The total estimated budget for the project is $19 million. Of that, $12 million will come from town reserves, $1.1 million from state funding, and $5.9 million through borrowing.
The town also expects the rebuilt park to cost less to operate because of newer equipment, lower maintenance needs and changes to how the facility is laid out.
When Will Chesapeake Beach Water Park Reopen?
The town is planning to reopen the water park in 2027. Water Park Committee meeting minutes from March list Memorial Day weekend 2027 as the anticipated opening.
Season passes are expected to return too. The town says it is still reviewing prices for the 2027 season and will include them in its FY27 budget once approved.
