Real Estate Agent Predicts a 2027 Exodus, Some Homebuyers Are Cheering
Real estate agents had a busy couple of years after the housing market made a massive shift as a result of COVID-19. The rise of remote jobs allowed many people to leave urban centers in favor of more rural locations, causing some regions to experience a major boom.
Then there were the changes that came along when interest rates dropped, allowing some people the chance to take advantage of great deals when they opted to purchase or refinance their home. Now, the world of real estate appears to be going through another shift as high home prices and high interest rates collide, slowing the rate at which people are purchasing homes.
According to one TikToker, this situation is going to see some major changes in 2027, when she predicts many people will leave their real estate careers in favor of more stable and lucrative professions.
While @thatflippingagent’s prediction seems reasonable, there are those in the comments who not only believe that it could happen, but are also encouraged by the idea that there could be such a major shift coming soon.
Real Estate Agent Says People Are Going to Leave the Profession
@thatflippingagent 2027 could be the year we see a mass exodus of real estate agents. The market has changed, transactions are harder to come by, buyers are hesitant, sellers have unrealistic expectations, and the cost of running a real estate business isn’t getting any cheaper. I think we’re going to see a lot of agents quietly leave the industry, pick up second jobs, or realize that having a real estate license doesn’t automatically mean having a sustainable business. The agents who adapt, get creative, and actually know how to navigate a challenging market will have an advantage. I’m curious, fellow agents… are you seeing people leave the industry already? #realestateagent #realtorlife #housingmarket2027 #phoenixrealestate #realestatemarket ♬ Cafe Mariposa – Truckstop Clerks
In the video, Justine says that there has been too much upheaval over the past few years. “The market has changed, transactions are harder to come by, buyers are hesitant, sellers have unrealistic expectations, and the cost of running a real estate business isn’t getting any cheaper,” she captioned the clip.
Her prediction is that people will leave the industry, pick up second jobs, or decide that the business simply isn’t for them. “The agents who adapt, get creative, and actually know how to navigate a challenging market will have an advantage,” the caption continued.
People Want to See Fewer Agents
While Justine’s clip appeared to be directed at her followers who worked within the real estate industry, many non-real estate pros jumped into the comments to share their thoughts about her prediction.
“Too many realtors, not enough affordable houses,” one person wrote.
“AI is going to take over mortgage and agent jobs Q1,” another person wrote about the first quarter of 2027.
“Good, your insurers and some realtors need to be brought down to reality,” another person wrote.
Fewer Real Estate Agents May Not Be a Bad Thing For Homebuyers
According to HousingWire, a smaller pool of real estate agents to choose from could benefit homebuyers. That’s because these agents would have to become more skilled at their trade, working harder to build more niche expertise that will make them stand out to both sellers and buyers alike. Not only that, but they would depend more heavily on repeat business, which could be a perk for homebuyers.
That also means that these remaining agents could be some of the best of the best, which could improve the customer service experience for buyers. That being said, there’s always a chance that it could have an unexpected downside, leaving homebuyers and sellers alike with too few options when it comes to finding an agent, possibly creating longer wait times and less positive experiences.
