Man complains about HOA.

HOA Cites Homeowner for Weeds, So He Turns the Tables With a List of Its Own Violations

A man had an unusual response after receiving what he says was a violation notice from his homeowners association (HOA). TikToker @davidwbroker posted a video about what happened, explaining how he was cited for some “weeds” in his yard.

Only David explained to his followers that he couldn’t find the “weeds” in question, so he decided to hop on his motorcycle and drive around the community looking for other possible violations. However, he wasn’t looking at his neighbors’ houses.

Instead, David cruised around town snapping photos of the common areas and other issues he had about the community itself, sending the HOA a letter citing them for issues he believes the HOA should address.

He says he also responded to the violation, asking the HOA to provide proof of where the weeds were growing in his yard. “Show me the weeds on my photos or withdraw the notice,” he wrote in his letter.

The Homeowner Included a Lot of Issues in His Letter

It sounds like David is fed up with the HOA, and he took all of his pent-up frustration and put pen to paper to send a strongly worded letter to the association. He read the letter to his followers, citing some of the issues he thought the HOA should deal with before they came after him for some weeds in his yard.

David said his intention was to get a lot of this on record, and he included issues like patchy and overgrown common areas that had rotting grass clippings everywhere. He also claimed that golfers had been coming into his yard to hit their balls, which is something David says the HOA said they were powerless to help with.

Additionally, David said he received a violation notice about a trash can that was left out while he was out of town burying his mother. “They’ll cite you over a trash can, but claim they have ‘no authority’ over golfers in your yard,” he captioned the video.

People Were Loving the Homeowner’s Energy

It’s no secret that a lot of people are frustrated by overzealous HOA representatives who tend to fine people for the smallest things. The people in the comments were largely supportive of David’s tactics, and they expressed support for his efforts to challenge the violation.

“Keep your foot on their neck,” one person wrote.

“Great letter, good for you,” another person wrote. “Sounds like they messed with the wrong resident.”

Another person asked if David would be willing to help them with their HOA issues.

David promised to share some updates when he gets a response to his letter, which he said the HOA was supposed to give him within 10 days of receiving the complaint.
