Emotional Visitor Returns Sickly Kitten They Stole From Shelter
After stealing a sick kitten from a St. Cloud, Minnesota shelter, the visitor confessed and returned the animal.
According to St. Cloud’s Tri-County Humane Society, on Sep. 16, shelter staff noticed Martin, one of the special-needs kittens, was suddenly missing.
After looking all over the shelter, Martin was nowhere to be found. They looked at security cameras to find more answers, and saw a visitor sweep up Martin and stick him in their purse, causing volunteers to panic.
Martin has ulcerations on both eyes — he has made significant progress in healing, but he needs daily medication so he can continue recovering.
A Plea For Help
In an attempt to get the attention of the thief, the St. Cloud’s Tri-County Humane Society pled for his return on Facebook.
“We need your help,” the post reads. “The day didn’t go how we wanted or expected, and we are asking for the community’s aid.”
The animal rescue explained that volunteers noticed a guest interacting with Martin before swiftly leaving the room, and the kitten was nowhere to be found.
Despite the visitor’s actions, the nonprofit reassured them they would not press charges if they returned Martin.
“To the person who took him, there’s still time to do the right thing,” the rescue wrote.
An Emotional Confession
Luckily, one day of worry later, the animal shelter received a phone call from an emotional individual.
The unidentified person apologized profusely and confessed to stealing Martin. The caller informed the St. Cloud shelter that they dropped him off outside in a box.
“Martin the kitten who was taken yesterday was just returned! He is safe and healthy, and he is reunited with his foster parent,” the St. Cloud’s Tri-County Humane Society wrote in a Facebook update. “We are just happy he is back and safe.”
The nonprofit added that Martin was happy and in good condition—before thanking the visitor for doing “the right thing” in returning him.
As promised, the rescue has reportedly not pressed charges on the visitor.
