A Henderson dog whose life got off to a rough start is getting a happy ending. According to Hearts Alive Animal Rescue, the pooch was first found next to a dumpster located outside of the animal rescue. An employee spotted the dog, who earned the nickname Treasure, and rushed him to an animal hospital.
Sadly, tests revealed that Treasure had multiple injuries and appeared very thin, leading the hospital to believe that he had been abused before being dumped at the Henderson, Las Vegas location. A week has passed, and the animal hospital has shared a happy update while still seeking help from the community to identify and locate Treasure’s original family.
Additionally, they are looking for donations for the pup’s care, since he will need ongoing medical care while he recovers from his devastating injuries. Treasure’s story has since gone viral, including an update on where he got his unique nickname—because he’s not trash, he’s a Treasure—and it has gained local media coverage from outlets like Fox5 Las Vegas.

Treasure Was Found with Two Broken Legs
In a heartbreaking post, the animal rescue’s post detailed Treasure’s injuries. The dog was found with two broken legs, signs that his jaw had previously been broken, and rocks in his stomach in addition to being very thin.
A few days after he was found, the animal rescue posted an update, sharing that he had taken a turn for the worse and developed a fever. Fortunately, they were able to get it under control before they had to perform surgery to repair his legs.
“Thankfully the rocks in his tummy have been moving and we will continue x-rays to make sure they pass,” the update said. “Our little buddy is a fighter. He’s so sweet and loving despite whatever horrifying trauma he has been through previously.”
The Pup Is on the Road to Recovery
On July 23, 2026, the animal rescue posted a happy update about Treasure, sharing that he had been released from the hospital. Treasure will be staying with a foster family while he begins rehab.
“We are still hoping that Treasure will get justice for being dumped and in the condition he was in,” the post said. “All tips should be reported to Henderson Animal Protective Services.”
Meanwhile, the rescue also asked for donations to help offset Treasure’s care, which they originally estimated could cost between $7,000 to $12,000.
Whoever Dumped Treasure Could Face Massive Fines
Treasurer’s former family may not be too eager to be discovered. The Las Vegas Defense Group says that the state of Nevada takes crimes against animals very seriously, and a first-time offense can result in up to $1,000 in fines, 120-hours of community service, and 6-months in jail.
However, those penalties all increase when a “companion animal” is involved, like a cat or a dog, which can result in felony charges as well as thousands of dollars in fines and prison time.
