Disneyland Paris Guests Ride Ratatouille Backward and See Nothing

A Disneyland Paris guest had an unusual ride on Ratatouille when his vehicle spent the entire attraction facing the wrong way. Instead of watching the animated scenes, he and his group were looking in the opposite direction.

Content creator Dan, who posts as @magickingdan on Instagram, shared footage of the experience on Sunday, October 11. He joked in the caption, “Great ride, saw nothing.”

Dan added text to his video explaining that the Ratatouille car was facing the wrong way. The ride kept going, but the vehicle wasn’t turning toward the screens.

Disney cast members apologized to Dan’s group afterward and gave them passes to try the attraction again, according to his account. They decided to give the passes to another family instead.

Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy opened at Disneyland Paris on July 10, 2014. The attraction uses trackless vehicles shaped like rats, which can turn and move in different directions throughout the ride.

In a 2024 article celebrating Ratatouille’s 10th anniversary, Disney explained that the vehicles were designed to make guests feel like they were running through Gusteau’s restaurant alongside Remy.

Disney says Brad Bird, who directed the original movie, helped create the animated scenes for the ride. Animation supervisor Andy Schmidt and Kristophe Vergne, who animated Linguini in the film, also worked on the attraction. The ride also has a refrigerated room where cold air blows toward guests. There’s hot air near the oven, and riders get sprayed with water when the rats open a champagne bottle.

One person commenting on Dan’s video said they had experienced the same problem before. Another claimed the ride was closed for two hours that Sunday, although Disneyland Paris has not confirmed whether the closure was related to this incident.

Disney Recently Updated the Ratatouille Attraction

The strange ride happened after Ratatouille underwent a major refurbishment that began in October 2025.

According to Disneyland Paris’s original renovation announcement, the work included replacing the attraction’s video projectors and changing the animated scenes from 3D to 2D.

Disney also announced plans for new oversized props and additional scenery inside the attraction. The queue was getting a new Parisian artist’s studio, complete with paintings, paint splatters, and a basket of fruit. The park decided to switch to 2D projections after several months of testing and guest surveys.

Ratatouille is located in the Worlds of Pixar area of Disney Adventure World, formerly Walt Disney Studios Park. The official attraction page lists it as suitable for all ages, with no minimum height requirement. A second version of the attraction opened at EPCOT in Florida on October 1, 2021.
