A Kentucky Amazon Driver is Going Viral for Saluting a Flag During Her Delivery

An Amazon delivery driver is going viral for all the right reasons. Typically, when you see that a delivery driver is trending online, it’s for something bad. From poorly handled packages to bad attitudes, people love sharing footage that they capture when their drivers are behaving badly.

But a woman is going viral for doing something heartwarming during a recent delivery, and it’s making national headlines. That’s because Inside Edition says that a delivery driver took time out of her busy schedule to stop and fix a homeowner’s flag while she was dropping off a package.

And that’s not all; the footage captured by her Ring camera also shows that the driver took an extra moment to turn back to the flag to give it a final goodbye by offering up a solemn salute.

Now, she’s telling the world the reason behind her actions.

The Driver Stopped to Fix a Stranger’s Flag

Nativida Muhammad was working on her Amazon route when she noticed that Ange Burnett’s American flag had gotten tangled around her flagpole, according to WLKY. Muhammad stopped to adjust the flag, which was hanging from a Bullitt County, Kentucky, home. Little did she know that Burnett had witnessed what was happening on her Ring camera.

And while fixing the flag was a kind gesture in and of itself, Burnett was blown away by what happened next, as Muhammad took a moment to photograph her delivery before throwing a salute at Old Glory.

Muhammad’s Actions Quickly Went Viral

Burnett shared the video, which quickly went viral. Eventually the two women were able to connect, and Muhammad explained why she did what she did. “I can’t just leave it like that,” Muhammad said. “To me, it’s like leaving a friend, you know, stranded.”

But she says her relationship with the flag goes all the way back to her childhood, when she spent a lot of time around the U.S. military. According to her, her father, sister, and brother all served. “So it doesn’t really matter what side of the spectrum you’re on, as far as a political stance, Republican or Democratic or independent,” she continued. “I feel like that our flag is a symbol of our freedom.”

While it was a lovely gesture for Muhammad to salute the flag, there are actually very specific rules about who needs to perform the sign of respect. According to Military.com, anyone in a full uniform should salute the flag when it’s being hoisted, lowered, or when it’s passing in a parade. Those members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are in attendance during these times but not in uniform may offer up a salute as well.

It’s unclear whether Muhammad ever served since she only mentioned her family, but one thing is for sure, she certainly has a deep respect for the flag and its symbolism, and that seems to have resonated with so many across the country.
