Couple Arrested After Homebuyers Claim Losing Their Savings in a Construction Scheme
A press release has announced the arrest of a couple after a multi-year investigation into the two, who were accused of defrauding people out of around $1 million of dollars. Joshua Quinton Carradine and Angela Bell Carradine were arrested by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, according to a press release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office published by Carson Now.
The investigation started back in June 2023 when the sheriff’s office received complaints about the couple, accusing them of making alleged fraudulent home purchases, signing construction agreements, and making financial transactions associated with their two businesses, AJ Home Center and AJ Construction, both of which were formerly operating out of Silver Springs, Nevada.
According to the release, the fraudulent activity took place from April 2022 through February 2024, and included victims in both Nevada and California. The alleged losses are believed to exceed $1 million.
Both Carradines have been arrested, booked, and released on bail as they await trial for a combined 26 felony counts.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Arrested the Couple in October
The couple’s alleged victims say that they experienced devastating consequences as a result of the crimes, including some who say they lost their savings while others say they were defrauded out of the money they needed to buy or build a new home.
Shortly after the sheriff’s office started receiving complaints about the couple, AJ Home Center was destroyed in a suspicious fire, which also led to the loss of a significant number of business records. Even without the evidence destroyed in the fire, the press release says that the sheriff’s office continued to look into the couple.
As the investigation went on, the Carradines moved from Nevada to Tennessee, which was their last known address when the Walker River Township Justice Court issued an arrest warrant for the pair.
The Couple is Out on Bail
The Nevada SAVE database shows that both Carradines have been released—the husband’s custody status updated on Oct. 8 and the wife’s status updated on Oct. 9—and the system shows them as “out of custody.”
The press release says that they have each been charged with 13 felony counts, which include five counts of theft of property valued at greater than $100,000, five counts of theft of property valued at $25,000 or more but less than $100,000, and three counts of theft of property valued at $5,000 or more but less than $25,000.
It doesn’t appear that a court date has been released yet.
