An Opossum Stole Their Ring Camera, What It Recorded Next Had People Laughing
When you’re a homeowner, you have to expect the unexpected. That’s because so many different things can go wrong around the house at any given time.
And when you mix being a homeowner with local wildlife, well, the unexpected can get downright hilarious … when you have a sense of humor, that is. Threads user @hikefully_awkward shared a video from her parents’ Ring camera on Oct. 9, explaining how it had been stolen from their home by a four-legged bandit.
“An opossum stole my parents’ Ring camera and dragged it under their shed,” she wrote. “They can’t reach it to get it back, but the little criminal has been kind enough to provide some excellent footage.”
Excellent footage indeed! The post quickly went viral, earning more than 1,500 likes just two hours after it was posted. People couldn’t help but laugh about the situation in the comments, sharing their truly funny takes about the possum and his 15 minutes of fame.

People couldn’t get enough of the furry thief, and they hopped into the comments to crack jokes. “Don’t criminalize him,” one person wrote. “He just wants the same opportunity as everyone else to be a content creator. Just look at the raw natural talent he has!”
“He’s convinced if he cracks open this stupid plastic nut there will be something delicious inside to eat,” another person joked about the way the possum gnawed on the camera.
Meanwhile someone else said a similar thing happened to them, writing, “I had the same thing happen with a freestanding camera I set up in the garden to observe critters that ate our tomatoes. Little sucker grabbed it and dragged it into a bush.”
Most People Liked Getting an Up-Close Look at the Possum
Several people had very punny responses to the possum, especially after getting a good look at his pearly whites. “Great teeth, he must flossum,” one person joked.
“What my cheese sees at midnight as I stand in front of the dimly lit fridge,” another person captioned a screenshot of the inside of the possum’s mouth.
The good news is that even after getting a good look at how sharp a possum’s teeth are, most people don’t have to worry about getting bitten by one. According to Terminix, these animals typically shy away from confrontation, and will usually only growl or hiss if they feel threatened. They also play dead sometimes when they get overly stressed or scared.
That being said, Terminix does note they can bite when they are provoked or if someone tries to handle them, so it’s best to keep a distance if you spot one in the wild.
