Man Convicted After Trying to Claim Ownership of a $4.8 Million Luxury Home
A 34-year-old California man is behind bars after being convicted of attempting to commit real estate fraud. Khambray Antoine Holloway was arrested after filing false documentation with the Ventura County Recorder’s Office in an attempt to prove that he owned a home in Oxnard Shores.
The house in question was a $4.8 million property that was actually owned through an LLC, which had never authorized the property’s transfer. Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko shared the details of the case through an Oct. 2, 2026, press release.
In it, Nasarenko’s office spelled out the timeline of events, including how a few mistakes on the paperwork raised red flags.
Holloway was eventually tried and convicted on Sept. 30. He now awaits his final sentencing, which will happen later this month. Nasarenko’s office used the incident to highlight how important public records are. Here’s what we know.
The California Man Tried to Steal a $4.8 Million Home
Nasarenko’s office says that Holloway first filed falsified information in July 2025, when he submitted a notarized grant deed to the Ventura County Recorder’s Office. According to the press release, he was attempting to use this document to establish himself as the owner of the multimillion-dollar Oxnard Shores home.
However, there were “irregularities” throughout the document, including the fact that there was no signature from an authorized grantor. This triggered an investigation into the documents, and when investigators reached out to the property owners, they discovered that a transfer had not been authorized.
He Tried to Have the Locks Changed
The press release went on to say that Holloway attempted to get locksmiths out to the property on at least two separate occasions to have the locks changed, giving them the same paperwork he filed with the county.
“This case was about trying to take a $4.8 million home with a few pieces of paper,” Deputy District Attorney Meighann Mahoney said in the press release. “This conviction recognizes the importance of protecting the integrity of our public records and holding people accountable when they knowingly use false information to try to obtain someone else’s property.”
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Search, Holloway was originally arrested on Feb. 22, 2026. He was charged with felony Filing False or Forged Instrument and felony Burglary. The press release states that he went on to be convicted on the forged instrument charge.
As of now, his sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 28, 2026, at the Ventura County Superior Court. It looks like he will remain in jail until the time of his sentencing or until he posts his $20,000 bail.
