A Natural Spring Runs Through This Woman’s Kitchen—and the Internet Is Divided

When shopping for a new home, many homebuyers pay a great deal of attention to the kitchen. Kitchens are often called the heart of the home, and for good reason.

While many folks prioritize things like counter space and storage when trying to figure out if a new kitchen will work for them, there’s one feature many people overlook simply because it’s not a common one anymore: a natural spring.

TikToker @vovovida2 has built up a massive following of more than 1 million people thanks to her unusual kitchen, which features a freshwater spring that runs through the middle of the room. It looks as though the water enters from one side of the room, flowing through a deep channel in the countertop, and exits on the other side. 

Her TikTok videos frequently show off how the family makes use of the unusual feature, which has left many people speechless. Others have asked how practical the feature is, between the waste the stream introduces into the surrounding environment and the cleanliness of the water itself.

There are dozens of clips on @vovovida2’s TikTok page highlighting how the family uses the water feature. In one, an older woman takes a cup and dips it into the channel, drinking a bit of water before using a kitchen sponge and some soap to start doing the dishes. 

“Did you just drink it,” one horrified commenter asked. 

Another posted about how the soap the woman was using to clean affected the nearby waterways, writing, “So all the soap is going directly into nature?”

However, a third person chimed in to say that many people are looking at this water feature all wrong. “Some of you grew up so deep in the comfort bubble that anything outside a treated pipe or a plastic bottle feels dangerous,” they wrote. “Not all water needs a factory to be safe … but also not all ‘natural’ water is clean. The difference is knowledge, and that’s exactly what got lost.”

The Feature Seems Common in Places Like Brazil

U.S. homeowners may be hard-pressed to find something like this for their home, but in other countries it’s a little more common. Mensa Saskatchewan posted about @vovovida2’s TikTok page on her own Facebook, explaining how this setup isn’t unusual in places like the state of Goiás in Brazil.

“In this example, the water flows through the kitchen from a spring and then flows outside to a cistern where it is sent out through piping to be used for irrigation in an orchard, watering the lawn and garden, etc,” the explanation says. “This home also has an outdoor kitchen with a river sink as well.”

While this may not sound like a dreamy home addition for everyone, there are plenty of people who have fallen in love with the idea, especially when it comes to the sights and sounds it adds to the kitchen.
