Police Rescue Kitten Trapped Inside Car Engine Before Finding Him a New Home
Officers Hughes and Behuniak, from the Syracuse Police Department, were on shift patrolling John Street on the North Side when they were flagged down by a resident with an unusual problem.
It was certainly not the kind of call the officers would have expected to receive. Instead of dealing with the usual incidents, they found themselves facing a much smaller but important situation, one that required careful thought to resolve.
A kitten had somehow managed to get inside the engine compartment of the resident’s vehicle and was unable to get back out. The officers quickly realized they would need to find a way to safely reach the tiny animal and began working to free him.
Officers Spring Into Action
The officers used a jack to lift the vehicle, giving them access to the engine compartment. They worked carefully to free the kitten, eventually bringing him safely out of the car.
Thankfully, the kitten appeared to be doing fine following his unusual ordeal. The rescue came with an especially happy ending, as the kitten was taken from the resident’s car and brought into their home.
He has now gone from being stuck inside an engine compartment to having what appears to be a new, forever home. The police department also suggested the name “Jack”, inspired by the jack used during the rescue.

The rescue prompted an overwhelmingly positive response online, with many people praising the officers for taking the time to help the stranded kitten.
Several commenters also shared their own experiences of cats crawling into vehicle engines, with some explaining that kittens are attracted to the warmth. Others recalled similar rescues involving cats found near radiators or inside cars.
There was also plenty of discussion about the kitten’s potential name. While the police suggested Jack, several commenters pointed out that the kitten appeared to be a calico and suggested names such as Jackie instead.
Others simply celebrated the happy ending, thanking the officers and the resident for making sure the kitten was rescued and given a safe home.
