Buffalo Museum is Opening a $3 Million Interactive Sports Exhibit
Sports fans heading to Buffalo will soon have a new place to test their skills while learning a little science along the way. The Buffalo Museum of Science is opening a new $3 million permanent exhibit called Science Stadium on Sept. 26.
The exhibit was created in partnership with three of Buffalo’s professional sports teams: the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bandits. It has 17 hands-on activities covering everything from physics and sports medicine to technology and the science behind being a fan.
Visitors won’t just be looking at displays, either. Science Stadium was designed to put guests into some of the jobs and situations that happen on and off the field.
It’s also the museum’s first major permanent exhibit renovation since Buffalo in Space opened in 2018. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 24, followed by the public opening two days later.

One activity puts visitors behind a sports analyst’s desk, where they can use statistics to practice telling the story of a game. Another station lets guests step into the role of an athletic trainer and learn more about sports medicine.
The exhibit also includes a sports simulator built around concepts such as velocity and momentum. Other parts of the exhibit explore adaptive sports, equipment, sound engineering and the STEM careers that keep professional sports running behind the scenes.
The museum worked with Buffalo-area artist Emeka Wajed on a custom art installation celebrating athletes and different types of sports. Local players, teams, and personalities are featured throughout the exhibit as well.
There’s Another New Bills Exhibit to Check Out
Science Stadium isn’t the only sports-related addition at the museum. Visitors can also see a temporary exhibit called Built for Buffalo, which focuses on the engineering and construction behind the new Highmark Stadium.
That exhibit includes actual construction materials, stadium seats, a player locker, and a detailed 3D model of the stadium on loan from the Bills. Science Stadium is permanent, while Built for Buffalo is temporary.
The Buffalo Museum of Science is located at 1020 Humboldt Parkway in Buffalo. Opening weekend for Science Stadium is scheduled for Sept. 26 and 27.
