Wearing a ski mask and gloves while hanging around on the roof of a business at 3 a.m. probably isn’t the best way to avoid attracting attention. Fresno police say one man discovered that after a security company spotted him on live surveillance early Wednesday morning.
According to the Fresno Police Department, officers responded to a business near East Shields Avenue and North Bond Street at around 3:03 a.m. on August 26. The call concerned a man wearing a ski mask who was being watched in real time while on the roof.
Officers weren’t relying entirely on the security cameras, either, as police deployed a drone to get another look at what was happening. The UAV confirmed that the masked and gloved man was still hanging around up there, which didn’t exactly help make the situation look any less suspicious.
Police identified the man as 28-year-old Gustavo Garcia and say he eventually climbed down before trying to run from officers. That escape didn’t work out, and Garcia was arrested on charges of attempted burglary, resisting or delaying an officer, and committing a felony while out on bond.
That’s One Fast Suspect

The video is pretty funny. It shows the overhead footage of Gustavo Garcia jumping down from a ladder and onto the floor of what looks to be a lot of warehouses while the song I Ran by A Flock of Seagulls plays in the background.
As he runs through this lot, the Fresno Police Department overhead has a spotlight trained on him. It doesn’t really matter if he gets out of here because of just how close this feed was watching him.
Eventually, he does leave, and he is met with—you won’t believe it—a few squad cars waiting for him. He does run a little bit further before he is ultimately captured.
Honestly, it was a really good effort on his part.
Commenters Couldn’t Get Past His Hiding Spot
There isn’t much of a debate happening in the comments yet, but one viewer found something considerably funnier about the footage than an attempted burglary. At first glance, they thought Garcia wasn’t on a roof at all.
“I thought he was hiding under a blanket at the beginning lol,” the commenter wrote. Considering the ski mask, gloves, late-night rooftop appearance, and eventual attempt to run away, looking like someone hiding beneath a blanket might have been the least suspicious part of his night.
For now, that’s the only reaction provided beneath the department’s post, so there isn’t much of a wider consensus to pull from. Still, mistaking a suspected burglar for someone tucked underneath a blanket is certainly one way for a 3 a.m. police call to look much less serious for a few seconds.
