American Airlines Adds Seven International Routes, Including the Only U.S. Airline Flight to Vienna

American Airlines is giving travelers seven new ways to fly overseas in 2027, including two cities it has never served before. One of those flights will also make American Airlines the only U.S. airline flying to Vienna.

The additions include six routes to Europe and one to Japan. They will begin letting travelers book flights between March 19 and May 27, 2027.

American Airlines will add Vienna, Porto and Reykjavik to its network from Philadelphia. The airline said tickets for all seven routes go on sale August 31 through AA.com and its mobile app.

Two more routes will leave New York, while Chicago and Charlotte will each get one route. London will also receive a fourth daily flight from New York, but that is an added frequency rather than one of the seven new routes.

Daily service from Philadelphia to Porto begins March 28, followed by Vienna on May 6. Both routes will use American’s Airbus A321XLR. Flights from Philadelphia to Reykjavik begin May 27 on an Airbus A321neo. This will be American’s first service to Iceland since 2019.

American Airlines has never served Porto or Vienna before. The Vienna route will operate through early January 2028, giving travelers another nonstop option for visiting the city’s Christmas markets.

New York Adds Amsterdam and Nice

American Airlines will begin daily flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Amsterdam on March 28. Daily service from JFK to Nice, France, follows May 6, with both routes using an Airbus A321XLR.

The airline will also restore its fourth daily flight between JFK and London Heathrow on March 28. American Airlines and British Airways will offer up to 14 daily flights between New York and London.

Chicago and Charlotte Complete the List

The only new route outside Europe connects Chicago O’Hare with Tokyo Narita beginning March 19. The airline will use a Boeing 787-9 and offer connecting flights through its partnership with Japan Airlines.

Charlotte’s new daily flight to Barcelona begins May 27 on a Boeing 777-200ER. It will become American Airlines’ sixth U.S. gateway to the Spanish city. Two returning seasonal routes will also be available earlier in 2027. Charlotte-to-Paris and Miami-to-Milan service will both begin March 4.
