When your kids go outside to play, you hope that they will spend their time getting some fresh air and exercise. Unfortunately, sometimes they end up getting themselves into trouble with all that free time instead. That’s what it sounds like happened in one Las Vegas neighborhood, where NBC’s News3 says around six kids on motorbikes decided to pull some pranks on unsuspecting homeowners.
But instead of harmless jokes like putting soap on car windows or TP-ing a few houses, they did thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to one home, while also causing destruction to several other nearby homes.
Now, the homeowner is raising the alarm and warning the kids and their parents that pranks like this could do more than get the kids in trouble—they could end up costing someone else a lot of money.
Here’s exactly what went down, and what the homeowner wants the public to know.
A Group of Kids Put on Helmets and Ran Into Garage Doors During the Night
Edgar Garcia was sound asleep when a group of kids approached his home from the street, wearing helmets that obscured their faces. The incident was captured on Garcia’s security camera, according to NBC’s News3, and it showed the kids laughing while running towards the home’s garage door.
After the kids made impact, they quickly ran back into the street and disappeared from view. Garcia heard the noise and came outside to see what had happened, but said he didn’t notice anything that night. However, the next day, everything became clear.
“I checked the cameras, and I saw the kids doing basically a modern-day ding-dong ditch on my garage door,” Garcia told the publication, adding that the kids probably did around $2,500 worth of damage to his door alone.
Garcia’s Home Wasn’t the Only Home That Was Damaged
After pushing the dents out from the inside of his home, Garcia checked on his neighbors. “I drove and walked around and saw my neighbors had damage too,” Garcia continued. “Theirs wasn’t as severe as mine, but they were surprised too. We were kind of shocked.”
While Garcia was able to fix his door on his own, he worries about what will happen if other people aren’t as fortunate. Not only that, but he also says that he’s concerned for the kids themselves, especially if they continue to carry on in the neighborhood.
“I don’t want them to get hurt. Nobody wants them to get hurt, but I want them to break this cycle,” Garcia explained. “If they think this is all fun and games, they’re not going to grow up.” Since the incident, Garcia has filed a police report with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
While it’s admirable that Garcia is worried about the kids, their parents should also be concerned. That’s because the Miller Personal Injury Attorneys website says that the state of Nevada has parental liability laws, which means that the parents of these children may actually be legally and financially responsible for their children’s actions.
Hopefully these kids realize what they’ve done and try to figure out how to make it right before they get themselves and their family into serious trouble… or worse.
