A Michigan homeowner’s request to keep neighborhood children out of her driveway turned into a larger neighbor dispute that ended up on doorbell camera.
Sonja Basley, a Lincoln Park homeowner, told FOX 2 Detroit that she had asked neighborhood children not to use her driveway as a racetrack.
Basley said the request did not sit well with their parents. Words were exchanged, and the situation later escalated when a seemingly intoxicated friend became involved, according to the station.
A driveway may look like open pavement from the sidewalk, but for the homeowner it is still private space. When children use it for racing, riding, or cutting through, the worry is not only annoyance. Parked cars, garage doors, blind spots, pets, landscaping, and people backing out can all turn a small boundary dispute into a safety concern.
The Camera Captured the Porch Confrontation

FOX 2 reported that the man in the video appeared upset with Basley and seemed to pick a fight with the doorbell camera. Basley said the man came onto her porch, used insulting language, and pulled down his pants in front of the camera.
The station reported that the act could potentially lead to an indecent exposure charge.
The Dispute Started With the Driveway
Basley said the issue began earlier this month when she told children not to use her driveway as a racetrack. The report did not say anyone was injured or that the children damaged the driveway.
Still, the dispute shows how quickly a simple property boundary can become personal when neighbors disagree about where children should play and how adults should respond.
Police Were Looking Into the Incident
FOX 2 reported that Lincoln Park investigators were looking into the incident as of Tuesday. Basley told the station she planned to file an official police report.
Until investigators decide whether any charge applies, the safest framing is narrow. Basley says a driveway dispute escalated, the doorbell camera recorded the porch confrontation, and police were reviewing the incident.
Doorbell Footage Can Help When Stories Differ
In a neighbor dispute, a camera can preserve the parts people may later describe differently. It can show who came onto the porch, what time it happened, how long the confrontation lasted, and whether anyone touched the door, yard, vehicle, or other property.
Homeowners dealing with repeated driveway or yard conflicts should save the footage, avoid arguing at the door, write down dates and times, and contact police or local officials when the behavior moves from annoying to threatening.
