Homeowner Saw Someone Trying To Break In on Security Cameras and Called Police

A Wilton, Connecticut, homeowner called police after seeing someone try to enter the home on surveillance cameras Wednesday night.

The attempted break-in happened on Buckingham Ridge Road around 9:45 p.m., according to WFSB. Police said the resident saw the person on cameras and immediately reported it.

Officers responded to the property, searched around the home, and began canvassing the neighborhood. K-9 teams from the Westport and Ridgefield police departments also helped search for the person.

The resident saw the attempted entry as it was happening and called police before the person got farther inside.

News 12 reported that Ring footage showed a masked person at the door of the Buckingham Ridge Road home. The video then showed the person turning around and walking out of the camera’s view.

Neighbors told the station the incident was unnerving because it happened around 10 p.m., when some residents were still awake.

Police Are Asking Residents To Check Their Cameras

Detectives were still working to identify the suspect after the search. Police believe the person may have been driving a dark-colored small SUV or hatchback, according to WFSB. Anyone with information was asked to contact Detective O’Gorman at 203-834-6260 and reference Case #26-6224.

One camera may catch the front steps. Another may show the vehicle, the direction it went, or a clearer image from the street.

Wilton Has Seen Other Recent Residential Cases

Patch reported that the attempted break-in follows other residential crime investigations in Wilton this month. Police have not said those cases are connected.

Police reminded residents to lock doors and windows, use motion-activated lighting, and install security cameras when possible.

The National Crime Prevention Council says home security also starts with sturdy exterior doors, deadbolt locks, secured sliding doors, trimmed shrubs, and lights in areas where someone could hide.
