Florida Woman Accused Of Firing Shot As Neighbor Cut Grass

A Florida woman is accused of firing a gunshot as a neighbor was cutting grass, turning a lawn-noise complaint into a criminal case.

The incident happened around 8:15 p.m. last Thursday in the 3200 block of Atlas Drive in Milton, according to WEAR.

Authorities identified the woman as 84-year-old Charlene Davis. She is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm on residential property.

The neighbor told deputies he was mowing his lawn when he heard a gunshot, then looked over and saw Davis holding a revolver.

Deputies Say She Fired Into The Ground

According to the arrest report cited by WEAR, Davis admitted to firing a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver into the ground.

Deputies wrote that Davis said she wanted to scare the neighbors because of an ongoing noise issue while she was trying to sleep.

The report said the incident was captured on a Ring doorbell camera. Video showed Davis leaving her home and firing one shot, according to WEAR.

The Neighbor Asked What She Was Doing

The arrest report said the neighbor could be heard asking, “What are you doing?”

Davis allegedly replied that she was trying to tell him he was waking them up, then added, “you better watch out,” according to WEAR.

The report did not say anyone was physically injured. Davis was released from the Santa Rosa County Jail on $5,500 bond.

Lawn Disputes Should Stay Far Away From Weapons

Lawn noise, grass clippings, late mowing, fences, and property-line tension are common neighborhood problems. They can also become police matters when threats, harassment, trespassing, or weapons are involved.

A camera may help document what happened, but it does not make a confrontation safer. If a neighbor dispute turns threatening, homeowners are better off getting inside, calling law enforcement, and saving video or written records instead of arguing outside.

When a disagreement involves a gun, the priority is distance and safety. The mower, the grass, and the noise complaint can wait.
